I need a light bass. My back is killing me.

Right now I use a 4 string Fender Jazz bass. It kills my neck and back something aweful. I had an injury a while ago.

What are the lightest basses out there? I was thinking a hofner Beatle bass. But if I can get even lighter, I would. I was even thinking about one of these. It's a Traveler Escape Bass. But I want real pups.

The Rob Allen Mouse 30 weighs about 5.5lbs, but it's not cheap. Sounds like a million bucks, though.

HWY1 P bass - light.
Good strap with a bit of cushion, 3" width.

That will help out. Certainly helps me (and my bad back) last longer.

I'm in for the Reverend vote. I used to play a P-bass, but issues forced me to look for a lighter bass. I played Ibanez for many years, but the tone just wasn't me. I found the Reverend and couldn't be happier. Like a Fender on steroids.

This is the biggest reason I bought my Jay Turser violin bass. I wanted something light to kick around the house with. Sometimes it feels like I'm wearing my Lakland.

Highway 1 or not, the P bass is not light.

These Yamahas are specifically designed to be light. They get good reviews as well. I played the guitar version, and was amazed.

Bongo!! very comfy and light, and if you dont mind the little holes on the back of the headstock, you can put some super light weight turners, this can reduce the weight almost half lbs.

Sadowsky NYC if you can afford it. With the chambered bodies, they can be extremely light.

Like this one here, at just over 7lbs.

I had a Bongo that was not light at all.

Lots of advice in this thread will point to basses that can be light, but are not made to be light.

whatever you get, a 4'' comfortable strap will make a bigger difference than a new bass probably

The Bass Company Basses have chambered bodies and are relatively light (I have a JT-400-JJ). At least it feels light to me, at least compared to my old Crestline P (which wighs about 10 lbs). Plus, its a minimum investment, and there are a few used ones floating around in the classifieds.

I had the same dilemma a while back when buying a bass. Instead of the heavy Fender Jazz Bass I went with a Carvin LB-70 -- lighter and smaller with killer tone.
