I need a lighter amp

Ok so today in my jazz ensemble class, my professor brought in my bass teacher to play in the 1st jazz ensemble because there's only me in the whole department (only jazz bass player; and i'm not a good enough jazz player to be in the "better group") and they need a bass to round out the sound. So he plays Upright and electric so he needs the school amp on tuesdays. So i need to bring in my own amp. Problem is, is that i have a crate 50w amp that weighs like 50 or more pounds. I can't lift it with two hands (well i can but i also need to have my bass in hand as well.) Should i get a new amp? if so which one should i get? it doesn't have to be huge power either.

Have a look at some of the genz benz shuttle combos maybe, I have the 3.0 10T, great little amp and seriously lightweight. Loads of info about them on this site if you do a search... 18 or 19 lbs I think, the 3.0 8T would probably be even lighter.

If your amp does the job, before spending your hard earned cash (or your parent's cash-since you're in school), I suggest you look into getting a foldable, light weight hand truck, something like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Put a couple of stretch cords on it and it seems to me that you would be good to go.

Btw, what's your budget? How far do you have to move it? Is it flat terrain? If you ask around, you probably could borrow one or buy a used one.

As an alternative, put some big casters on the back along with a pull-up handle and create your own pull along system.

Or check out the Micro-rigs of doom thread to see what other TB'rs are doing to create their lightweight rigs.

Possibly let your prof know that not being able to use the school's amp puts you in a jam. Maybe they have another one or can get one since you're paying them tuition and such. Or maybe the pro guy has a small rig he can bring for himself?
