I need a thumb rest - I think!

I'm a little late to the discussion, but this may help. I sanded down a piece of cedar (one of the nice smelling closet cedar things - I liked the color) and attached it with removable 3m strips. It looked like crap, but it allowed me to re-position the sucker. I kept it on for 3 months, and finally decided I didn't want a thumb rest. I pulled off the 3m strips and now I'm set.

johnk_10: Youre Fender Jazz looks exactly like mine! Except you seem to have a hole in your scratchplate that is exactly where you wanted to put your thumb rest. Ive looked at my sctracthplate and the hole is much closer to the edge than yours. Why has your scratchplate got the hole there and not in line with the other holes? (I hope that makes sense!)

Ive been looking at bass ramps. I never knew a thing existed! Ive read that it helps with playing faster because you physically cant dig deeper. Are there any other benefits? (other than also using it as a thumb rest). I play funk, so liek the idea of playing fast finger funk. Can you buy a bass ramp for a Fender Jazz from a online shop?

I made this one out of a piece
of maple I had,

I think John is using the hole for the pickup cover.

I'm helping a friend with this issue. He got a thumbrest/finger rest Fender. Stew/Mac and others did not have anything different than then the Fender finger rest.
For a trial we used 2 sided tape to make life easier. So far he finds it too high
off the surface, prefers height of the pickups. I am cutting a piece of plastic
that height & putting it across both pickups. I'll try and update.
