I need aggressive, balls-out growly sounding strings!

I was thinking of DR High-beams but they are lacking a bit of bottom end from what I heard on youtube.

I actually got lighter gauge DR Hi-Beams because they were too bassy for my Warwick corvette. I now use .45-.100's instead of the standard .45-.105's. Lo-Riders might be a safe bet if you don't have a lot of cash to spend but still want a really well-made set of strings.

VT Pedal. I think the issue is that your amplification is not giving you what you need.

KO

This is a very viable point as well. Sometimes the preamp section on your amp could use some extra "help" every now and then. My VT bass deluxe does it so well that I just skip the preamp altogether :D

I use Picato Nickel rounds on my Geddy Lee and my VM Jazz. The Picatos are not as bright on first fit but still have a stack of growl left after them being on for months. I used to use Rotosound but don't like the price.

I use GHS Boomers for three reasons.

#1: They cost half as much as almost every other brand, around $20 for a 4 string set.

#2: GHS are made in Michigan and so am I.

#3: They aren't a very bright sounding string, so the tone stays consistent longer, IMO.

GHS have always sounded good to me. I have used DR Hi Beams too, they sounded great, but had a LOT of zing till I got them played in a bit, so I had to roll off the treble a bit. DR's are pricey though, over $50 a set in most cases. Ouch.

If you want a "muscular" and "ballsy" tone, you should add an active onboard preamp,2 band eq will do and you don't need to get the expensive ones like the emg ones ot the aguilars. Just go to ebay there are tons of them by about 20 bucks and sound great, you just need to shield your cavities to avoid noise issues.
And of course, stainless strings are a must
