Lately I have been looking through differant gear all over the internet trying to figure out which direction I want to go with amplification. I need to build an amp for stage use at as much of a value that I can. I thought of a half stack with head or maybe even a large combo. High quality high wattage heads are pricey so I started looking around at rack gear. Now I am most interested in the Behringer Bass V Amp rackmountable preamp. It has cabinet simulator and effects all built in so it is nice for you dial in different tones and have presets saved. Along with this I would just need a power amp.... right? I am kinda new to all this stuff so I just want to know if this is how everything works. I also looked at power amps too and a Behringer 500 watt. The preamp costs $160 and the power amp is $200. Without the physical rack itself, I think $360 for this set up is a real good deal. I might as well stick with Behringer as well with a cabinet too. They have high wattage cabality at a value so I dont see why not go with it. I want a 4x10 cab to start and eventually maybe add a 1x15 cab. Thanks for reading, any comments or suggestions?

i need ampage! rack question

You're on the right track(preamp + power amp) but some(NOT ALL) Behringer stuff seems to be less than reliable from what I've seen posted. That said, the Behringer gear here(keyboard amps, POD, BX1200) have been reliable but I don't gig with them. I've been waiting for the Bass V-Amp pro to go down in price myself as the Behringer POD has some good patches that Line 6 cannot(IMO) cover but only to use it at home and as an extra effect in series with my main preamp(Line 6 Bass PODXTLive). PLUS it is already stereo(if you want that) with an XLR out for the PA.
On a tight budget, I'd probably do it and get better gear with gig money ASAP.

Sounds good, but wait and watch e-bay, and get a EP2500 for 300 bucks when you see a special. Then get a used Avatar 410Neo cab, and you'll have a class rig, that will last for years.
dont go for behringer, the amount of times people have said that its good stuff, and then it breaks..... cant say i didnt warn them.

Let's call it what it is... Behringer SUX w/a capital X.
It sounded so bad in my teaching studio they actually bought me something else. And that is saying something!
Go for the USED market in that price range. Otherwise, it's a question of, "Hey guys, what's the least bad gear I can buy new in this price range?"

Just throwing this out there, but a used GK 800RB will run around 360, and will murder that Behringer setup, and a used Ampeg cab will run you around 2-300 bucks. Now you are talking about 650 for used professional quality gear, instead of 650 bucks for new entry level junk.
Behringer products will never have a place in my signal chain. Despite their dubious reliability (I do have to tell you, I know people with Behringer stuff that has lasted them a few years with no problem), they copy the look of similar products just to confuse people into thinking it's the same thing, and it's not. They have a warehouse full of cheap components, and they substitute those components in their designs and adapt whatever they have to work, even if it's not the right component. Uli Behringer has admitted it. So it looks the same, but it sure doesn't sound the same.
Sure I was kind of skeptical on behringer since its not a high end name product but Ive read a lot of reviews on all the products and havnt ran into much complaints. Most people love the V Amp and the tones the get from. Im a little worried about noice but not many people complained of it of the 50+ reviews I read on it. The power amps from sound reliable from their reviews. But some people just dont like them becuase their not a crown or crest amp. As long as it gives power and lasts that is all that matters to me. And for the cab, in an old band I played with I used a behringer 410 and it worked for me fine. Sure I know this all isnt the best gear out there but I think it will be versitale and suitable for my needs. Im trying to put together a value rig. Id love to just get an Ampeg 810 and SVT head and be done with it, but thats not possible for me right now. I have been looking for some used gear but you have to be lucky to run into the right thing and that can be pretty exspensive too. But for sure I want to build a rack and the preamp will the first peice that I will buy since I will be able to use that right away. My band wont be gigging for a couple months at the least so I will have that time to finish the rack and get a cab. Im trying to save as much money as possible into this so I thats why Im looking into all the behringer stuff. If I go with it, I just hope I dont get a bad egg.
