I need Cirrus help

I thought the Cirrus was Peavey's "custom shop" only offering ? :hmm: I played a MII and liked the sound, but not the build quality. However, $2000+ versus $589 is a big difference. Just looking for opinions on how you like your Cirrus'...onshore or offshore.

Thanks Jeff. I need to find a local shop that stocks the MIA and check it out I guess. I'm into the look, sound, and feel of this instrument and wanna make sure I get the one that I'll be happy with 10 years from now....when I have paying gigs.

Maybe this will help you decide?:D

I rejoined the Cirrus club a couple weeks ago, after not owning one for a couple of years. I have been looking for a maple topped Cirrus 5 for some time now to replace the one I stupidly traded off on a Warwick, and my wife actually found one in the paper, about 40 miles from me.

An older guy owned it, and it had spent most of its life in the case. SO, for $600, I got an almost brand new Cirrus in my hands. I had forgotten just how much I love these basses--especially after stringing it with DR High Beams and getting it set up (he had the action too high for my liking).

IMHO, look around for a USA model. They are wonderful basses.

I own a USA Cirrus. I love it. I have played the offshore version. It is a very decent bass for the price. Not near the build quality of the USA version, but good for the price.

I prefer the neck on the USA version, it is a little wider, and shallower. More comfortable for me.

Ditto for me. This is mine:

The electronics are dead quiet. I have recorded with it and it sounds very sweet. I can go from blending with the band to cutting through with just a touch of boost on the mids.

The one thing you don't see in that pic that I use a lot is the HipShot Xtender. Some of our songs work better in Drop D and it has been a blessing.

Yeah, the electronics are great. I have a 6 string USA model and I'm very, very happy indeed. Very comprehensive shielding. For best value, look for a used one, they're an absolute steal. I paid $1050 + shipping/import duty for mine from TBer Vic and mine was in as new condition pretty much (though of course I'm slowly ruining that :(). Depends how many strings you want, 6ers can go for as low as $800, 4/5s about $600. Depends on condition and options too mind you. Because Peavey are not a name asosciated with botique gear, they depreciate pretty hard, buying them used makes a lot more sense.

Oh and just to make your decision a little easier :p:

I recently got my first Cirrus after reading all those glowing reviews. I picked up a used 4 with a redwood top in 9.8 condition for less than $700. I have to say I am impressed with it. Very well made, tight focused tone and the neck is very easy to play. I wouldn't get a new one only because they take such a huge hit on resale, but for the going rate used they cannot be beat. Nice basses indeed!
