I need help choosing a 6 string bass! Yamaha, Dingwall, Ibanez?

I have played several of the high-end 6-string basses and liked pretty much all of them. Not played a multi-scale 6-string bass (yet).

But I have to mention, yesterday, I played a Peavey Cirrus US-made 6-string probably around 25 years old. I've played no 6-string that played, felt, or sounded better.

Everything about that bass spoke volumes to me. And maybe the best C string (usually the 6th one) tone I've heard. Full, balanced with the rest of the strings.

I so badly want that bass. I think it's the first 6-string that I'd make my #1 player. But sadly, it isn't for sale and I very seriously doubt it ever will be.

I just had to mention it. I can't get that bass outta my head.

The USA Cirrus basses are the best 6-string neck I've ever played. What was the wood/finish of the one you tried?

I used to rock a Tiger Eye Cirrus six for pretty much everything, but my musical context has become significantly less interesting over the past decade and a half. Nowadays "something that sounds like a Fender Jazz" usually slots best in the mix and I rarely need my G string, let alone a C. So the Cirrus sits in the case, but there's no way I'd sell it for a reasonable price. A few years ago I had a guy who wanted one reach out to tell me "what it was worth" and it was about a grand less than I'd ever consider.

Sounds like maybe the quilted redwood model. Saw one of those, a six string too, go for $800 on eBay years ago. And a Tiger Eye Quilt for $700 a few years later. Seems unimaginable today...
