Double Bass I Need Help From A Luthier

I have a 1956 American Standard which I recently purchased. It has been refinished but I believe there was a problem under the foot of the bridge on the G string side.
I was wondering if I could repair the top with some epoxy or wood putty??? Inside the bass there is a piece of a shim and a square piece of " pegboard material" cut in a 1 inch square. The soundpost is set right behind it so it is basically right behind the bridge foot.
The bass sounds really loud still but I want to avoid a problem in the future. There doesn't seem to be a luthier in my area.

How do I get this thing to upload pictures?

I recommend some luthiers in the Tampa Bay area if you don't mind driving an hour or so. I also know of a few in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, but I haven't used any of these personally. One that was recommended to me can be found here. Again, no personal experience.
