That is a tough one. Depending on your schedule I would try different things.

If you do not need to have the songs done, hence are just a project, I would walk away from them for a while. Do something other than music to recharge the creative juices.

If you need to get them done now, then it is time to grind it out. Sometimes things are not particularly inspired, but they can still be good. Sometimes you just need to meet a deadline, at which point you write from the brain versus writing from the heart, so to speak.

This happens to everybody at times. What works for me may or may not work for you. In time, hopefully you can get over the block.

One thing that works for me pretty well is to go to another instrument. If I need inspiration, I usually go to my old violin, or lately I sit down at my piano (which I am pretty miserable at).

Or, just relax. One thing that I've found is that I grow in spurts. Sometimes it's just not that time. From time to time, I will go weeks without touching an instrument (a particular instrument, I never put down music all together), and as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

That's what I do instrumentally. If you're looking for lyrical aid, look for the simplest idea you can and expand. Do not try to find the perfect idea, the ultimate lyrics. It'll just sound forced.

Or, if you're one of those types who has to have an incredibly deep meaning to your song, try to just do a happy, pointless, even silly song. Seriously, it can open you up to bigger things.

My 2 cents. Where the **** is my change?!?

I don't care for the early Beatles, the, "I wanna' hold your hand" stuff, but the post-LSD stuff is pretty amazing.
That's not a recommendation for LSD, but...I guess it couldn't hurt inspiration under the supervision of the right Lava Lamp and velvet black-light posters.

To the OP - stop posting on Talkbass - it tends to sap your creativity.

I also believe that we are allowed to use only so many letters in life. Some day you'll be writing a song and - POOF! - you're done, never to write again, because you've used all of your letters on Talkbass. Then you'll have to get some kind of menial job - like bending tacos at Taco Bell! :bawl:

Letters - use them wisely - period.

Well it's obvious from this thread that you don't hate the Beatles enough.

Hate the Beatles more and the songs will flow. Easy!

Go for a walk and look at things. Then go back and write some more. Even if it's crap, keep writing. Just listen to the radio and you'll hear lots of crap.
