Ok, here's the situation:
About a year and a half ago when I was getting somewhat serious about bass I needed something a little bigger amp than the 15 Watt Peavy Keyboard/Acoustic amp I was playing through. For about 3 years when I first started playing bass I don't even count them, I never practiced and was a bass bum. Anyway I started to seroiusly practice so I shopped around for cheap amps with a lot of power. I stumbled across the Behringer BX1200 in a magazine and read the write-up. It seemed perfect for the price (280 bucks maybe???something like that) and it advertised big results. So I went to my local guitar center and tried it out, and thought it was great. So that christmas I got it, and I liked it a lot.
I've practiced pretty large amounts of time, and carried the amp around a lot of places. I got a decent amount of use out of it, but like yesterday I turned it on, plugged in, and turned it about midway. And the volume was very low, so I turned it up a little more, and the volume stayed the same practically unheard volume. So I figure that bass amp is fried, which I guess you get what you pay for, but I didn't realize at the time you have to make investments to get good stuff.
So right now I'm on the lookout for a cab/head with enough power to play almost any gig. I'm not sure what it will get me, but I'm saving up about 1,000 dollars if that means anything. Buying used isn't a problem for me. I play semi-regular country shows, and once I get in a band I'll play rock/funk/metal/ska/anything I get in shows. I'll need something that pushes a lot of volume and has a lot of reliability. It needs the basics in the cab/head (direct out, good EQ.)
I play an Ibanez BTB406QM (6 string BTB) so it has to be able to push a low B. I don't want any mud. I also play a Fender Precision Elite.
I need a lot of volume, you know how loud concerts can get. I'm not asking for the golden tone, I really just need a workhorse that sounds nice.
I'm not sure if I can get anything in the 1000 dollar range, but it'd be helpful if you could suggest anything.
