I need to buy my first pedal

Hi all. I would, like the title states, buy my first pedal. I think all I want is a pedal to imitate the "bright" feature that is on the SVT 3 pro. I played on one once and I used the ultra high and the bright and I loved the sound. I'll post the video of the sound I got so you guys can help me out. But I currently have an SVT CL and ampeg 8x10 and I play a Rickenbacker 4003w. The sound I am looking for is almost like a Fat Mike from NOFX bass sound. Anyways here is that video. The sound I am trying to get is before we start playing and I'm just playing random stuff. For some reason, you need to rewind the video when you first click on it, I dunno why :

This is an always on pedal for me. HUGE part of my tone. Certainly not for everyone though, and there is a fine line between subtle and way over the top with this thing. But, it is really unique, and for the price it is just fantastic.

BRIGHT: When this switch is engaged, a more lively top end response [+6 dB at 2 kHz] is added to the input signal.

Based on this, a parametric EQ like the Empress will do the trick. Make sure to not put it on the effects loop since the dB are added to the input signal.

Before you buy it though, try setting you frequency knob at 1 (that's 220k) and the midrange knob at around 4 o clock and see if that tickles your bright switch bone.

Empress Para EQ will do what you want and more.

Just to throw it out there I believe Fat Mike uses a touch of chorus on some of his bass parts in the studio.

One more thing, he uses a DanElectro which will give you a VERY bright sound.

I also vote for the Empress Para EQ. Get the newest version with the boost foot switch, instant overdrive for your tubes, two pedals for one.

I agree 100%, but I'm a sucker for pedals, with that being said a good eq could do it, never tried the empress, but someone is selling a Ashdown DI/10 band bass eq pedal for real cheap in the classifieds with some high frequencies I've never seen on any bass eq

I just added a Fromel Shape EQ. For overall musical tone shaping, it cannot be beat IMO. I also have an Empress. Very nice, but sort-of meat-and-potatoes.

OP, are you on wireless, and if not, how long a cable are you using? Longer the cable, the more highs you'll dull down (so I'm told).

@ pnchad – if you knew and experienced for yourself how often the effects junkies have to put up with twaddle such as "I've been playing for XXX years and Never Needed/Used a Pedal" you wouldn't peddle that twaddle here yourself. How'd you like an incessant stream of "Fodera sucks, especially through SWR or GK amps" whispered in your ear? Yeah, Fodera owners who use GK amps need to chill...
