I ordered a Noguera 9-string ...

By the way, everybody, Mark makes some of the baddest-ass bass cabinets I've ever heard. I almost brought the Fox Theater down playing Jean's 9-string through one of his 21" cabs.

First of all, thanks for everyone for your response!

Dave, I've been in the 9-string club ( ;)) for a while now, I have 2 Jerzy Drozd 9-strings and I just love them! Sorry to tease you guys while not having any pictures of them. :)

As for the tuning... the two 9's I have are both tuned F#, B ( that's H for the European school of music), E, A, D, G, C, F, A#. I'd be willing to try something else.

I am also considering fanned frets since I'm in love with my Drozd fanned-fret 7... but we'll see!

I love a wide string spacing and so it's going to be on my new baby! I have the fingers of a monster, length-wise I mean. A wide spacing makes all kinds of interval leaps easier for me! Don't be fooled by that picture, Noguera tends to make bass necks to customer's specifications, and whatever the bass, the necks are top-notch as for playability and comfort. That 8-string is not at all challenging to play. Noguera necks are actually one of the best in the world - and yes, I've played an MTD (*waiting for someone to throw me with a rotten egg*)

And once again we have a "justify your extended range bass" thread! Many times I've had to explain my musical philosophy to bass players, who "just couldn't understand why you need so many strings". Those people did not understand until they heard me play. Explaining is just as useful as banging someone's head to the wall and asking: "Are we learning anything yet?"

People people people! Go see these extended range bassist freaks (:D) play! After all, whether it's a 9 or a 4, it all comes down to the groove!

You own three Drozd's and you still want more basses. :eek:

Is it hard to track down strings for nines, and how often do you (any of you extended ranges guys can chime in if you want) change them

I like sticking to being a bassist when I play bass. I like playing a melody, but tapping seems a bit cold to me. A 9 string bass seems more like a compostionary tool then a bass, I could see how it would be easy to write a song with so much range, like a bass piano.

Funny enough, I must add that I aslo spent one hour with Christian Noguera yesterday afternoon. We talked about extended range basses and Christian only spoke about Yves 8 string basses (he has a fretless in the works too!)

Funkyherbivore, now would be a good time to show them basses. It is not the first time I see you posting that you own them, still not one pic? Please don't take me wrong, but you must agree that without pics suspicion falls over you. :hmm:

Well, I actually own seven Drozds. And those who doubt, please do. There is no reason for you to believe me, and frankly I don't give a toss if you do or not.

As for the Noguera bass, I just emailed Christian about the bass and I am still waiting for a response.

Right now my life consists mostly of gigging, teaching unexperienced players pro bono , working at an old folks home, studying at university and I'm supposed to get some sleep too. And the money I make, it all goes to living. I can't even afford alcohol nor other substances for temporary euphoria. So, here you go, I don't have digital camera, I don't have a scanner - and your suspicions, you're all entitled to them.
