Wow, I've been looking through this thread and like what I see/read! I've been looking at the HB's for a while, really like the looks of their PB-50. I could use one or two or 5.

They are remarkably good value. Accept that it will probably need setting up, but for the price it is an awesome instrument.

Any instrument needs setting up. Action is always set safely high by default to avoid any chance at buzzing once the weather changes.

I didn't have to do much setting up to mine, I let it settle, then threw on a set of chromes. Very happy!

Thanks! The black guard and tug bar came on the bass right out of the box. Thankfully, they included the white pickguard in the box.

Not only is the PB-50 one of relatively few left-handed p-basses available in the lower price range, it also looks absolutely smashing!

I actually quite like it with the black pickguard.

I can't really choose between them. Far right has a Peavey super ferrite and TI jazz flats,the hot ceramic PU makes the mellow strings jump out. 2nd from right has nylon tapes so I've that woody thump. Paisley sports La Bella tapes. The aged cream has the thickest and widest neck of them all,it's really comfortable to play.

The pearloid/burst now sports a black scratchplate and has a Lakland Chi-sonic PU. It's the only one strung with roundwounds. Might fit a "varitone pot" over the holidays.I've used solder-less connectors,a breeze swapping the Warman humbucker back in when I fancy a change

Build #6 is in progress. No info on that until it's finished

The black guard looks good on the PB-50, congrats! I will buy one soon, maybe after Christmas has finished dining on my wallet.

I wish they'd use a tint on their necks, they look a bit pasty. That's easily sorted though

Same here. The holes for the tug bar were drilled through the pickguard after it was fitted and there will be sawdust under it. I've got the pickguard off mine right now and like the look of it. Don't know whether to disguise the holes or put a red tort or red pearl pickguard on it. Here's some pics without the pickguard.

I bought a Thomann hard case at the same time.

You can't really see the neon red strings all that well in the pics but in the fleash that last picture gives a strong impression of none more red.

The case is great for anything fender shaped but no use for anything with a tilted back headstock. Really nice case for the money though.

I never thought of that. Your eye would still be drawn to them. I've got a friend who builds these plastic models. I was going to ask him if he could match the paint for a rough disguise job. Only needs to work from a few feet away. You might also spot I changed the bridge. I had one that is identical to the one from the first batch. A cast plate instead of a bent one. I like the look of it better and I had it anyway. I've ordered one with 18mm spacing to see if I can get all four strings passing over the centers of the pole pieces. Purely cosmetic, it works and sounds great as it is.

It plays great. The best thing I can say about it is that I don't notice it while playing. The neck is VERY comfortable for me. Can't really comment on the tone as most of my basses have flats. The red coated strings will be replaced by chromes eventually and I'll be able to directly compare it to my other basses but my initial impression with the rounds it came with and these is that it has a deep clear clean tone. A voice of its own, doesn't sound quite like anything else I have, but I don't know yet if that is just strings. It has got all my play time since I bought it and I might buy another and paint it seafoam green.

The red strings were a 5 string set. I'll never use the 5th string. If anyone in the UK wants it drop me a PM and I'll post it to you F.O.C.
