I put my first ding in my Ritter

I don't mind dings in my basses, as long as I put them there from my playing them, I get pissed off when someone like my drummer walks by and knocks it over, or when one of my guitar player friends want to try it out and happens to be wearing some giant pointy belt buckle and a wallet chain to boot and starts thinking he is Angus Young on the bass... It's my bass, i'll put the dings in the thankyouverymuch.

This thread kind of gives me some perspective as both a bassist and saxophonist because I see bassists actually getting out and playing instruments like Ritters and Foderas that cost $4000-$8000 and am awestruck, but then I consider that it's difficult to get a professional level tenor saxophone for under $3000-$4000 (from one of the four: Selmer, Keilwerth, Yamaha, Yanagisawa) and pros play out on them all the time.

It's also possible to play nice basses out without getting dings. I do it all the time. People act like dings are inevitable.

I'd use a Sharpie on that ding... until I could find something like automobile touch-up paint with the same sheen.

Really, all you have to do is drop it from an office building roof; drag it on your driveway; shoot some puck at it...
Man, you have some work to do now :p

hey man - That's the bass I was going to buy. 5 string flat black Ritter classic 5 from Italy. It got lost. By the time the Owner/ Seller tracked it down a month later, I had to pull out of the deal. Seller was a nice enough guy, but he wanted me to collect the insurance from the Italian postal service. I'm glad he found it and it ended up coming to the states anyways. I ended up getting a Roya 4 out of Atlanta instead. That's a nice bass you have there. Take care- DM

since this is the "I dinged my bass thread", heres my latest off of the drummers cymbal as I was just getting a little to "frisky" last weekend on a very small stage :(

fortunately I found the piece that broke off, and I'll glue it on there sometime after the novelty goes away...

I have the same attitude as a lot of you...regardless if the bass costs 5 grand or 100 dollars, it is gona get "injured" to some extent in it's usage thru the years, and if it don't....then your not playing everything with the character and emotion sometimes needed for portraying your feelings to the audience.... :)

I gotta say this club thing gets carried away on thsi forum, but this one is actually really interesting. I no longer have any damaged boutique basses, but I put a big gouge in my elrick's headstock in a ceiling fan accident and by buddy once busted a 4 inch long chunk of (the most beautiful) 3 tone burst finish off of my modulus, so I do have a little experience in this department. I will be monitoring closely until I can afford a Sadwosky NYC and jam the headstock in the car door for all of your amusement.

This is nothing....you should see what Jean Baudin manages to do to his basses. I think I recall seeing his Alem...er...Hideous Claw in pretty sad shape these days. Jean, you want to chime in with some pics?
