I Really hate to admit this....

I can be, privately, pretty snobby about those myriad Ibanez basses. I keep it to myself because they're way better than the budget basses that were available when I was a pollywog, but could never see myself playing one.

A while back, a guy I know invited me out to hear his band. Okay, sure, support your pals. Bassist was using one of those SRwhatevs. Sounded okay to me. Then my buddy invited me up to play a few songs....and the bassist gladly invited me to use his bass. Ruh roh. Is anyone looking?

Truthfully, the bass played well. And with a little EQ fiddling, it sounded great. And that's why I keep my snobby attitude about those basses to myself.

I’ve always felt that you truly are really just better than everyone else on TB.... You just proved me right. There should be forums about you on here. You’re just that much better than us. But, I should keep this to myself.

Go check it out. Which one is it?
aaaaaand ...it's gone! either someone wised up and snagged'r recently it or was taken down, of course I'm not finding the ad which I tend to archive either to show you the bass. I'll post if it shows up. it wasn't the PJ, the PUs were identical in looks and had the multi-array of switches / knobs they tended to employ. decent cond. too, on the bright side I hope it went to a worthy new owner.

If something like that shows up again, pick it up. IME, you won't regret it.

Oh heck yes! :smug:

A few years ago, I was looking for a mid-80s Roadstar II like the one I owned (and loved) back in the day. Welp... I was unsuccessful in finding one... but I DID find an all-passive, thru-body Bean that claimed by heart. Dang, the Musician basses are hyper-sweet... they sound incredible and are great players.

84 passive bean musician for me

Ibanez was my first bass purchase, they have come along way, since the late 70’s. The play great, but for me, the neck width is TOO narrow, especially at the nut. That has to do a lot with the playability, IMO.

Have you seen this yet? New for 2019. Neck is a little wider.

I used to think Ibanez made cheap beginner basses. I never wanted to play one. A few years ago I was interested in fanned frets so I bit the bullet and picked up one of their fanned fret models. I didn't get along with them, but the craftsmanship and sound it put out was really great. A few months ago I bought the SR2605, and it blows my mind. It's a tonal beast, looks great, and is an immaculate build. Their Premium line is really top notch.
