I Really hate to admit this....

Confess!

My ‘85 with splittable humbuckers sounds and plays phenomenally. The 850 was sort of a Neanderthal precursor to the SR series. I love it.

not sure why --- unless you're 'too taken' and/or influenced by the fender-love here. if you went looking for that perfect fender piece for yourself you'd probably find the best 'fender fit'. but if you went looking for the 'best instrument fit' for yourself = it probably wouldn't be a fender.

I’ve always been an Ibanez fan and always been impressed by the tone. I’ve been on the lookout for a used Roscoe Fretless 5 or 6 but can’t swing the dough. I think I’m gonna look towards Ibanez and see what I can find. I’m sure I’ll get a hell of a lot of bass for a lot less bread.

,I heard a band at a restaurant this weekend. The bass sounded exceptionally good. I had to get closer to see what he was playing. It was a older ibanez sdgr with humbuckers. Nooo! I have never been a ibanez fan, i hate to admit this....but it sure sounded good!
Ibbys do sound good!

I have used an inexpensive Ibanez bass, a 2011 SRA305, as my main 5-string bass from 2012 until just recently. The only reason I am changing is because of my old left hand injuries are coming back to haunt me and I need to switch to a 33-inch scale bass. Inexpensive Ibanez basses are woefully underrated.

I haven't played a cheap bass yet that I like. I keep picking them up though, maybe some day I'll be surprised. I think the least expensive bass I've owned that was my main bass was the Japanese Geddy Lee Jazz. Very nice and I think I bought it for $600 used. I had a G&L 1500 that I picked up for about $550. I've also had some high end basses ($2,000+) that I didn't like, so spending more money doesn't always mean a better fit.

The bottom line though is, if you like, who cares what it is or how much it cost?

That’s the thing about Ibanez Basses.... They definitely don’t have that TB Status Symbol appeal. Nothing wrong with that though. I wish I could spend eight grand on a bass, but, in the end, I don’t think it would help me as a player all that much.
Just my opinion, but spending more on a bass only helps your playing if there is something about your current bass that is holding you back. Some basses are so bad that they do hinder your playing, but today, most basses, with a good setup, are at least adequate.

Not like when I was a kid; back then cheap basses were just junk. You had junk and pro grade, not a lot in between.

Now get off my lawn and go buy a cheap bass!

Nice. What is the fingerboard radius there? What model?

I like the closer string spacing on 5ers and 6ers. I find it more efficient, especially considering the way I mute.

The problem I have with Ibbys is they tend to look the same. I picked up this because it's not a typical Ibanez

Ibanez was my first bass purchase, they have come along way, since the late 70’s. The play great, but for me, the neck width is TOO narrow, especially at the nut. That has to do a lot with the playability, IMO.

my second purchase and my only bass for 12 years was a SDGR i didnt have anything to compare to but i eventually got to hating these narrow necks i feel right at home with a chunky AVRI 63 P bass
