I saw this and just about cried.

Ok, everyone, simmer down. It's still a free country and the seller can do whatever the f--k they want to their own bass. It's just hard on my poor eyes to see something so beautiful get a less than great workover.

Listened to the video, and, yes, that bass sounds very nice!

If anyone here feels the urge to chop up a zebrawood FIIB, call me first, okay? Maybe we can make a deal and save the poor thing!

EMG's in an Alembic??? What a down grade. The synthetic copy contaminating the original form.

Alembic bases have a quality that most Alembic bassists do not know. Alembic pick ups cut through a mix even when you think they aren't.

What this means is that the warm smooth sound of the pick ups can often make you think you are not cutting through from where you stand on the stage, but when you get out on the floor or even at the back wall you will learn what few know, that Alembic pick ups carry the notes including the separation on complex runs you may be playing.

Alembic invented Active basses and no-one has emulated them.

I own a Alembic Series II...and yes, they sound great. But they are not some holy relic....get a grip, my friend. At the end of the day, it's only a bass.

The seller looks to have spent a decent amount of time with the refinish. The holes are nicely filled and match fairly well, the new controls are even, the contours on the body are consistent, and the paint job/clear coat appears to have been done with care.

I'm not sure what the bass looked like before he got to it, but it's certainly one of the bettrer "hack jobs" I've seen on ebay.

No, they sounded better to the guy who did it which makes it the right thing to have done. Maybe you should fill out your profile; without knowing your background it's hard to take you seriously...especially when the guy I'm talking about has done a dozen or so albums with a successful band and has worked with the likes of Stephen Fearing and Sarah McLachlan among many others. You're listening with your eyes pal.

I like EMG pickups, and I'm not looking to get into the middle of this argument, but replacing Alembic pickukps with EMG's is generally considered to be a bad move by those in the know.

It's only a bass that costs over $20,000.

You do realize, of course, that we were discussing Funkinthetrunk's Alembic Series II, right??

I actually modified that stat in your favor. The real answer, rounded off to the nearest whole number, is 100%.

Did you not read my previous posts in this thread about the very accomplished player who put EMGs in his series II? As much as it conflicts with your narrow view this does reduce the percentage to less than 100%. And the fact that such a superb and thoughtful player as Hugh McMillan would do such a thing says that maybe, just maybe it's not such a ridiculous thing.
