I saw this and just about cried.

Because people mod their basses all the time? It was a Kawaii- it's not like he found a lost Vermeer painting and painted a monster truck on it.

This is awesome. That would definitely be something to see.

Did you not read my previous posts in this thread about the very accomplished player who put EMGs in his series II? As much as it conflicts with your narrow view this does reduce the percentage to less than 100%. And the fact that such a superb and thoughtful player as Hugh McMillan would do such a thing says that maybe, just maybe it's not such a ridiculous thing.

Note that I CLEARLY stated that the figure of 100% is a number rounded off to the nearest whole number.

Note also that just because Hugh McMillan (whoever that is) does it doesn't make it right. If Hugh McMillan walked off a cliff, would you follow him?

And note I clearly chose to ignore that BS. If ONE player validates it then it is validated.

Actually if it WORKS for him (which it does) then it DOES in fact make it "right" (whatever that really means)...for him. I respect Hugh and think he gets an amazing sound but that has nothing to do with following him off a cliff. Truth be known I never liked either Alembics or EMGs. They sure work for him but I could never make friends with either. This isn't something that's clearly and objectively defined yet you're commenting as if it were. Why?

Your logic is, well... let's just say it's "peculiar". Using that tack, you can validate just about anything.

What's not to understand about about the fact that if something works for someone then that something is "right" for him? There is not the universal black or white answer you initially put forth and you're so desperately clinging to.

Then why in God's name are you involved in this thread at all???

What do you care? Are you trying to dismiss my opinion based on that??? :rollno:
Not that it matters one iota: a friend of mine had one of those Kwais years ago and I've always kinda liked them so I looked. I never thought his felt or sounded much like and Alembic...it weighed a lot less.

Appeal to ridicule.

I like EMG pickups, and I'm not looking to get into the middle of this argument, but replacing Alembic pickukps with EMG's is generally considered to be a bad move by those in the know.

I don't know why I even bother trying to talk with someone dim enough to enter a discussion saying something this absurd.
Suggested reading for you...since your arguments consist mainly of these perhaps you'd like to know more about them.

Sorry to disagree, but any electric guitar that retails at the same price as a brand new Nissan SUV is not "only a bass". When someone spends that kind of money on a bass, it had better be a "holy relic". Metaphorically speaking.

Luckily, I did not spend $20K on mine....nor will I ever for that matter. Yes...a Alembic Series II is just a bass. Albeit, a nice one, but in the grand scheme of life, it's just wood, electronics and steel. How about just going out and spending time with family and friends...you know, enjoy life. I'd gladly give up my Alembic for one more minute with my deceased father...or my best friend who died of cancer.

There is more to life....

This is an utterly absurd bass. If you are going to do mods like this, do them right!

However, I thought about it, and I suppose with the creative use of a pickguard style control plate, you could eliminate the need for a refinish in a solid color, and the battery cavity can be rerouted, and given a proper recessed cover plate.

To my knowledge, those are the original pickup route shapes? If not, you could still reroute for properly fitting pickups.
