i have to laugh at the comments about guitarists and their 4x12s, confession time! i'm really a guitar player, with a 4x12, and a 2x12, since jumping to the low notes i have learned much, and to the comments aimed at guitards..... its mostly true, lol
the JCM800 head is a devastating guitar amp, they just arent controllable enough in the usual small gigs/rehearsal, a power break would help but the benefits are short lived IME, the "guitard" ends up cranking the amp even harder to get that "tone" only to choke the amp even more and then burn thro valves even quicker.
i have read BFM say that any guitarist never needs 4x12, when i 1st read this my thoughts were on the lines of "ahh what does he know", lol, but he is right, alot of my gigs on guitar have been done with a marshall 2x12, without even knowing about beaming i always used it on end, drivers vertically alligned, my logic for this orientation was 1. less stage space taken up, 2. raised the sound a foot closer to ear level, but knowing what i know now theres the 3rd reason, - better dispersion.
the band i played guitar in had a rhythm guitar player who used an old marshall JMP 100 watt head, this thing was the loudest amp i have ever come across, STUPID LOUD!, i'm not a fan of senseless noise, i like tone and dynamics,, even using a power brake he was overpowering my lead playing, most annoying,, so when i read posts about guitards i now just chuckle to myself and remind myself that most of the negative comments are quite simply TRUE!.
GET YOUR GUITARIST TO ENJOY MAKING MUSIC, NOT NOISE
