On what amp I want!
I currently play an Ashdown MAG 300 head into a 15 in homemade cab (not upright friendly), or a custom built 12 in cab (it works pretty well for upright, cost me 90$), or an Eden 410XLT (best cab I've ever played through for electric, not so much upright). These days all I play is jazz combo/ensemble and small club/bar gigs (<75 people). Mostly upright, but still some electric.
I don't play loud rock or metal anymore, so I no longer need the 410XLT. I love it, but I plan on going to school on the East coast in the next couple of years and doubt it wouldn't even be possible for me to bring it with. So that's going up for sale. I NEVER play my 15 cab, so that's going up for sale as well. That should free up some funds.
I've been reading around for about a week and think I finally decided on the Markbass CMD 121. I hear nothing but good things about it for electric and DB. I played through it on electric about a year ago, and it sounded amazing. I'm going to look at a used one for 550$ this Saturday and am bringing MY DB and EB. Have you guys had problems with the input impedence? I'm using a realist.
I'm worried about three things:
1. The SPL of my Eden was 106 decibels. The markbass is 99... My 12 in cab cuts it with a full jazz quartet pretty damn well now, and that's probably not too efficient (I have no idea what it's SPL is), but nonetheless I am worried. With the Eden I was always getting asked to turn down, EVERYWHERE I PLAYED, which was nice
I'm afraid it'll be the opposite with the markbass. Any thoughts? I'll definitely end up with a 2x10 or 1x12 extension cab, but that's probably at least 6 months away before I'll have money.
2. I teach a few private students on electric and upright, and need an amp that has two inputs for that purpose. I don't really understand how this thing works completely, http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp?type=90&cat=13&id=78 but can that be used to plug two basses into a single input, as the markbass is only one channel? How else would I be able to solve this problem? My Ashdown has two inputs, but I plan on selling it if I get this Markbass so I can buy a new bow.
3. The rear port of the markbass. I'm used to my eden with is front ported. Anybody have problems with this? What can I do to avoid them? I heard about elevating the cab off the floor, what is the best way you found to do that specifically?
Hopefully all goes well this Saturday and I wind up with an awesomely small amp that does everything I need!
