I think I need a D.I. Recommendations?

I personally think a good passive DI for live work is the best option available for the reason I stated previously. However, it sometimes does not work well on passive instruments as the long mic cables can load down the instrument. In this case, I suggest an active DI such as the J48.

Which brings me to my delima. I would like to find a transparent DI that doesn't change the tone of my bass that will work equally well with active and passive basses.

From what I've read, the Countryman or the Radial J48 fit the bill as well as the Radial JDI.

I've used my J48 with both passive and active instruments,no problems functionally or getting good tone.

Hey guys. I've been offered a Sansamp DI driver as a part ex on a bass I'm selling.

I've done a bit of research and can't figure out all the tech talk. Is this active or passive? Suitable for going ampless?

I still don't really know what I'm looking for or what it is that I need

I cast a vote for the AR-133 by BSS Audio. A great DI box that doesn't get that much recognition here (compared to the Countryman and Radial units).

That is a great unit.

I'm partial to the Radial gear (not so much a fan of the Countryman).

Active, and the point of it is to simulate the sound of playing through an amp, without the amp-- "sans amp".

I have the SansAmp DI. I think it's great. I use it live and also for recording direct. I also have it running into my SS amps to help warm up my tone. I have even used it for OD before I bought an OD pedal.

It seems to me, for all my reading, that I might be better off going with the JDI. Simple (because I'm a donut), less to go wrong (also because I'm a donut)

I should be receiving my Countryman soon, but not in time to use it this weekend. From what I can find it's a safe bet. Still would like to try the J48.

No. An active bass can use any kind of DI.

I'd look into the Grace Design M101. It's a bit bigger than the Countryman or Radial and requires AC power, but it does sound really, really good. I used a Grace Channelstrip for a few gigs when my Eden navigator took a crap once again and it was an experience that spoiled me. It's now being used by a bunch of bass players. The M101 has the same DI circuitry.
