Intentional or not, you definitely implied it enough to give someone who is unfamiliar with tube amps the impression that they are unreliable in comparison to SS amps, which is wrong. They are no more unreliable than SS amps. Do they require upkeep? Sure do, but so do cars, houses, computers, and a number of other things in life, and that alone doesn't make them unreliable. It just means their user needs to know their stuff.
Feel free to disagree if you want, but I won't continue this conversation with you.
I like SS heads, too. I have never had a tube head, just a tube preamp, but I still like the SS preamp.
well i still have a few old sunn SS around and they work just fine. Well they did when i last played them 15 years ago![]()
Mybe a better question is, which kind of amp requires more service (upkeep). Well, it may be small, but you DO have to replace tubes sometimes. But, service doesn't equal unreliable, necessarily. My old '65 Fairlane 500 with points was just as reliable as my '06 Ranger, that is, unless I didn't keep up the service. It only took minutes to change the points, though, just like tubes. BUT...I'm glad to not have to change them anymore.
All it means is that I have my own personal preference.
Yeah - I guess the reason I am posting is I'm surprised I didn't realise this earlier. A bit of a palm to the forehead moment.
Now I gotta decide whether to move my ABM head on or keep it on a bit longer.
Ive found lately however that I am reminiscing about the sound I used to get from my old Fender BXR Dual Bass 400(mostly due to the fact I have a BXR 200 combo for smaller acoustic gigs - its very similar spec wise).
Words actually mean something, and all the drama queen antics in the world won't change that...
They sure do, so be sure you use them properly or else people won't understand you clearly![]()
I did - too bad you let your hysterics cloud your ability to understand them... I'm still waiting for your list of SS amps that have failed you, btw...
- georgestrings
