I think I stop believing in expensive basses!

It's a recurrring theme lately, reflected in many posts. I think it is entirely a hipster thing. It's so cool to rock the Squire and SX, you know?

Funny, but some have at least been honest and admitted that was their real motivation.

Can't speak for anyone else, but in my case it's strictly financial. I really can't afford to spend thousands of dollars on musical equipment anymore. Hipness has nothing to do with it. There several high-end bass manufacturers (Sadowsky, especially), that I would love to give my business to, but there is no way I can afford it and I'm not going into debt for a bass.

So... I bought a fretless Squier. It happens to sound great. I really like it. And that doesn't mean anything at all. That my Squier sounds great and feels great and is a blast to play in no way invalidates the beauty and quality of say, Sadowsky fretless.

This whole discussion is ludicrous.

OK, then do you hate higher end basses simply because your Squier sounds great to you and if you have the extra cash flow coming in, would you own a Sadowsky as well?

Generally speaking, I agree that each bass is different and more money may not get you more sound.

Practically speaking, my 7.35 lb Sadowsky Standard 5 plays great, sounds great, feels great, is built great and doesn't hurt my shoulder to wear all night. I can't say that about any of my other basses.

Not cheap, but there are MANY more expensive basses out there!

In my case, I have absolutely nothing against or for an expensive bass, as the most expensive basses I have played are my squiers.

I have had a chance to try much [DEL]better[/DEL] more expensive basses, but I have refused due to the simple fact that I can't miss what I haven't tried!!

I was very happy with my (very) cheapo bass until I joined TB and got convinced to try a VM Fretless, which then also lead me to a VM Jag, and now I hate my original cheapo!!!

Personally, if I was making money from playing bass I would look for the best (in my opinion) tools for the job, but as I only seek enjoyment, I enjoy my Squier!!

(But I do suffer badly from GAS!!!!)

Of course not and I never implied that in any way, shape, or form. Like I said in the first sentence or so of my post, it's strictly financial. If I could afford a custom Sadowsky I'd already have one. I am, however, still ridiculously pleased with what I got for $320 out the door in the form of my Squier.

Being happy with one in no way necessitates hating the other.

I don't think he was implying that, just hoping to see someone with logic and not a chip on your shoulder. Ya passed! ;)

OK, so I think I stop believing in expensive basses, especially when I'm debating on whether to learn to read music or whether to choose a Mac (or is a PC better?) to cruise the TAB sites and wondering whether to put flatwounds or roundwounds on my cheap bass before I start to practice with or without a metronome.
BTW, what's the best inexpensive bass (that's better than a boutique bass) for Metal?

Spade2you is correct. I simply was seeing if you were, hopefully, not like the other high end haters out there. And again, Spade is right. You passed.
