I thought I was safe... SX SJMB-62

I thoguht I was safe from the Jaguar looking SX... it was shortscale, and the color choices were (initially) pretty limited. Well, now I have no choice. Ahhhh!!!!

OK, I just got my new SJMB from the postman... initial impressions... the neck has a nice thin"ish" jazz profile, the faux pearl blocks actually look alright... and the neck pickups is a few degrees listing to the portside, as well as the pickguard pickup hole being off, the cut to the neck is also skewed.

Neck finish is faster that the Fender Japan re-issues. Tuners are Mexico Fender equivalent. Which is to say, one step down from the Fender Japan tuners, and one step up from the Squier line.

So far, I'd say the quality is OK, but not as good as the SJMB guitars.

I've had serious trouble resisting that one. I was hoping for a long-scale in that size, then not only does that happen, but it's made available in one of the hottest color combos imaginable.

I'm trying to stave off GAS...I already have an SX and another budget bass (fine instruments though they are) and would prefer to save up for a nicer bass (Fender '51 RI P is my dream) but this makes it hard.

One thing that has prevented me from buying this one is that I hear the body is very small. I'm a big guy so I don't want a bass with a guitar-sized body.

How does the body size on this model compare with a standard P or J?

Sure, GAS is a powerful thing, and every time I turn around, Rondo has another really cool bass that I would buy. So tend to stay away from the site (only like once a week I go there...okay 2 times a week...well, 3 times actually...) And reading SX threads here doesn't help as someone always points out another new bass that I must own...

SX basses are an addiction!

The body is smaller than a J-Bass, but that has its advantages. Because it is essentially a Jazz with the upper and lower bouts bobbed a bit, you get slightly better reach into the high frets. I like it because it's a little offbeat, and it's not a direct knockoff of the Fender. It sorta reminds me of a non-rev Thunderbird that's been scaled down a little. The neck dive is present, but not terrible. The weakest link is the bridge, and that is a cheap fix.
