i want dreadlocks!

NO!!! Dreads are natural! It takes nothing more than using a non residue shampoo! My dreads will lock up fully in time, they won't be spikey. Its natural. ANY HAIR CAn HAVE DREADS. They are not dirty, thats jjust a misconception. Also for them to be dirty and oily will prevent them from locking up! I respect newbolds post. It is a lifestyle. I do not discriminate against the guy who paid the hairdresser either, for it takes must patience to do it my way.

the act of washing my hair is like a ritual, you mix up your chosen ingredients, ( I use dr bronners lavender, Hemp oil, sea salt, and aloe) and you dunk your head in and sponge it all up then squeegy it all out untill the bucket is gone.

IF you want dreads, buy Dr. bronners natural soap.Keep them clean, And wait! You will get them in due time, I promise. It does not matter your hair type. their are alot of things people think dreads are like. But i will tell you, They are amazing!

And I have no problem getting jobs. as long as you work hard, people can't really hate on you. But I have to tie my hair back for my job, which is grill operator for ruby tuesday. (which is a sit-down type resturant) So I hope this post clarifies some things.

Ps. I saw something about wax, DO NOT USE IT! your hair will never lock up with it! Oh also I wanted to say, fiddling with your hair, "attempting" to finger comb it , will further the proccess. I do not suggest the palm roll, cause to much causes breakage. But everyone will take the pat they choose! Throw away your comb and brush......

I had dreads for a while. I only got rid of them because they were way too hot to have while working outside in 40+ (celsius) weather. I wouldn't mind having them again, but I am digging the short hair for now.

A few tips, DON'T use wax. I used wax to start mine and it just made them nasty after awhile. Made them way harder to keep clean. You can backcomb them to get them started, and keep doing it once a week or so to make them lock up faster. Or you can just let them mat and keep ripping them apart into the size that you want them. Whatever you do, get a tam, they are sweet to keep your dreads under.

The op's an idiot.(I know the guy personally so it's not a problem.)

I dont care what sort of prententious aura you would want to have by having a synthetically created hairstyle (for our genetic makeup atleast) and more over, unless you guys have been here, you cant imagine the amount of dust/pollution/muck/dirt and just general rubbish we are exposed to in day-to-day life. When some of us end up in the United states or UK or something, we actually get a high from looking at our face at the end of the day and realizing they arent as black as coal or looking at the underside of our shoes and realizing you did not step on cow poop on the way home.

Dreadlocks are a SUPER bad idea here. I can understand braids or cornrows, because your hair sticks to your head. I've seen a rock guitarist with dreadlocks and I **** you not, he was the laughing stock of the human society. No one wanted to be near him, seen with him and the general consesus was that when he took off his rastafarian beanie(??) to let his locks fall, people(including me...I'll admit that) wouldnt have been surprised if there were flies flying out of his hair.

I know if you want to show off the world like you really dont give a **** about what people think of you, but it is a bad decision and it is according to me the most pretentious thing you can do to show off your non-comformism. Get a tatoo/piercing and whatever else trash you want to get but please dont end up ruining your social/professional/personal life over something like this.

People here (and I'm sure a lot of people even over there) are conservative and judgemental regardless of whatever you want to do to show off to the world that your unique. Being an eyesore or Johnny-McStinkshits really isnt a good way to do that....

For years, I had dreads; my hair was down to my ass, and my beard was down to my belly, and they were both dread.

I used "Let's Dread", which is a whipped beeswax product sold in "ethnic" or "urban" beauty and/or hair shops.
My hair was about 10" long, and I took about 13 hours to make my hair 'lock'.
I still wish I had them...but oh well.
