I Want My Old Rig Back!!!....

I miss my Thunderfunk TFB800-B2 a lot. I sold it and all my heavier gear prior to a scheduled back surgery. But I avoided surgery and have completely mitigated my back condition by using an inversion table and natural anti-inflammatories. So I have another TFB800-B2 on order -- I'll have it in a month!

I just grieve for all the money I've spent. If I had just stayed with the first really good rig I ever had, I'd still be wowing with it. It was an Ampeg SVTIII-Pro head and two Mesa Boogie Diesel 1x15 cabs. It was such a bodacious and great-sounding rig.

Certainly nothing fancy, but my 800RB into and old Eden D15 that was stoopid heavy for what it was. Played some of the best shows of my career through that very modest rig.

I wish I still had my Hartke 1155 combo. They probably sold 1,000,000 of them, so why are they so hard to come by on the used market?

I sometimes miss my Trace Elliot 2x15 cab but it is mostly for nostalgia's sake and because I got rid of it for way to little money. I barely use an amp nowadays though, mostly using IEMs and in the instances when I do, my portable 2x10 would be better suited for the job anyways.

I missed my old Trace rig so bad so I found the same head and cabinet and bought them. I don't play out now so the single 1518 with GP11-AH250 is plenty loud and sounds great.

The Coconut Teaser Club on Sunset in Hollywierd had that SWR set up as the house rig. I loved playing there! That amp kicked ass so huge! My Eden WT800 is great but the SWR 750 had some extra edge to it.

As crazy as it sounds I miss my Peavey 300 combo.I played that thing for a minute (79-92 ) ! hell even after I got my other 2 rigs I still gig'd it because it sounded damn good and it was built like tank.

I had some cool amps that are now gone ...

1 - I had a 60s Fender bassman 50 watt all tube, with a 2x12 cab.
2 - I had a 70s Sunn 2000s all tube with a 4x12 cab with Cerwyn Vega speakers.
3 - I had and acoustic 301 1x18 cab, with a Peavey bass head and I ran it sometimes with a 1x15 cab as well, that made a 7 foot stack.

These days I have 3 Ampeg heads and 3 2x10 cabs, 2 1x15 cabs, and 1 1x18 cab. All of the cabs are 8 ohms.

I had an SWR SM-400 with a Goliath 2.Best sound ever but too heavey for me.I replaced it with a SWR 350 Redface and an Electro-Voice B210.If I could find another B210 I'd be happy or maybe a Goliath Jr 3

This is what I learned the hard way when I let a Magnavox era SVT stack get away from me in the early 90s. These days I always have two rigs. One is something I know I can work with and the other might make the cut and might not.

While I am happy with my current Eden rig, I do miss my old Walter Woods app I sold back in the mid '90s. The amp was the third one he built and was with me for 15-ish years.

Very briefly, I had a Hiwatt 200 back around 1978-ish. I only had it for around 6 months and traded it for a solid state HH amp. I like clean amps and liked the Hiwatt sound. In many ways I wish I still had it...except for the weight.

The one that got away? I'm so frustrated with my current rig that I can't help but wish for my old rig to come back.

For me my favorite rig was a chrome SWR Bass 750 and a SWR Goliath Sr. 6x10 cab. I loved it, still don't know why I let it get away. Being that SWR is dead...I've been trying seemingly everything and the class d amps just don't do it for me.


How about you? What's the rig that got away from you?

Amp-wise? Nah - it seems like I keep getting better kit (Amp/cab tech really does keep improving). If you liked that SWR setup, get yourself a Berg 6x10 and any number of fine hybrid amps. I suspect my Ashdown ABM500 would fill the bill nicely!

I don't think I'll ever give up my SWR 750x and Ampeg 810. It has given me the sounds I've needed for so many years and never even broke a sweat.

I bought that SWR head brand new from GC when I was 16 or 17 years old. And I still have the original polish cloth, manual, etc...
