I Want My Old Rig Back!!!....

The one that got away? I'm so frustrated with my current rig that I can't help but wish for my old rig to come back.

For me my favorite rig was a chrome SWR Bass 750 and a SWR Goliath Sr. 6x10 cab. I loved it, still don't know why I let it get away. Being that SWR is dead...I've been trying seemingly everything and the class d amps just don't do it for me.


How about you? What's the rig that got away from you?

Seriously I don't think I have downgraded on any front so far... I love my bases and rigs right now.

Trick is don't get swept up in fads, and use proven equipment. Like class d. I dint care what anyone says they dont have the grundle that lead sleds do

I'm fine with my current rig(s). Pretty much any amp with my CN212 hits the spot.

I don't play as often these days, but when I was touring 7-9 months of the year I had an SVT II (non pro) with an 8x10 and a 6x10 (never used both at the same time). To me, that rig was it. If for any reason I started gigging a lot again, I would try and get that rig back.

Sold it a few years ago because it took up too much space and was being used like once a month.

Nope. Can't say that I understand where you're coming from. I never let a piece go until the newest proves it can deliver and endure. ...And I'm very happy with the "grundle" I get from my Class D. Maybe your technique and/or bass just don't agree with it.

Not to say the old stuff was bad, but I'll take today's gear over it any day. I started with a Fender Bandmaster, way underpowered, and moved through things like an Acoustic 360, Road 440, etc. Now I have two primary gigging amps: a GK MB212 and a Walkabout Scout 15, and I don't think I've ever had better sounding amps. Couple that with the improved power, weight, reduced hum and noise, more versatile EQ, and I don't miss the old days at all.

I don't miss the old days either....because I'm still using the same gear i did 25 years ago. It ain't broke, it sounds great and it's been long, long paid for.

Damn that sucks. I love a 750 and 610. I've been looking into class D but have been highly skeptical. You might have just saved me from doing something stupid. Thanks again and sorry for your loss.

I'm on the same boat as you are. My old rig was a pre-Fender SWR 750X and A Goliath Sr. I sold the cab to get something lighter because of my bad shoulder and am now regretting it.
Have not found anything light that has the proper combination of good tone and loud volume like that cab.

I hear you. I miss My 350 chrome face (pre/fender ) so much. such a nice head. I Will try eventually to get another. I have a MO' And with all the possible twikings it cant mimic it!

During the mid 70's through mid 80's I used a Rickenbacker 4001, SVT head and cabinet. I've been through a lot of gear over the years, and now I'm using an '81 Rickenbacker 4003, SVT head and cabinet. Some mistakes can be fixed.

What's the rig that got away from you?

20 watt tube combo, 1-15". Gigged it with it for years. Bought it for $65, sold it for $125 if I recall, should have just kept it.

First good rig years ago was. Super-Showman Head / Small Showman 2x15 cab, loaded with JBL-D140 speakers.
Or a Ampeg V6B / matching 2x15 cab.

Great rig indeed!!!! Although my current Aguilar AG500 and DB212 is pretty darn good too ........... but that Eden was something special!

I sometimes regret letting my all tube '82 Fender Bassman 20 go. That's one I'd like to have back, even if just to use in my living room.

I sometimes miss my Trace Elliot 2x15 cab but it is mostly for nostalgia's sake and because I got rid of it for way to little money. I barely use an amp nowadays though, mostly using IEMs and in the instances when I do, my portable 2x10 would be better suited for the job anyways.
