After composing myself, I gave this matter a lot of thought, and have decided that Mark Hoppus is the right guy for the job. Robert Trujillo, Jason Newsted, and Cliff Burton are (or were, in Cliff's case) talented bass players, but Metallica's style isn't really conducive to... well, talented bass players. If good ol' root-fifth Hoppus is willing to detune (what is Metallica playing at now, drop-C?) and turn down the tone knob on that Fender of his, they can start recording.

I used to like Metallica. Cliff made the band IMO.

    Metallica needs to retire.
    Know when to say when!

I lost all respect when the black album was released.

    Heres another solution:
Replace Kirk, Robert, Lars, and James...
Then call the band a whole different name.
They would PROBABLY be good then... ;):p

    Here's my ultimate Metallica lineup:

    Kirk replaced by Dimebag
James replaced by Dino Cazares (from Fear Factory)
Lars replaced by Thomas Haake (from Meshuggah)
Cliff Burton (raised from the dead)
    Mike Patton on vocals

Now THAT I would pay to see.

Metallica were once great. I agree with Joe they started fading since the black album. But if you don't like them, don't listen to them and stop bashing, you whiners!

I wonder what would've happened if Les Claypool did get the job when he auditionned for them when Cliff passed away? Would've they went the pop metal route anyway?

BTW, Megadeth made some pretty sh*tty albums in the mid '90s, too... :spit:

Then didn't accept him because he was too good... I mean, I remember watching an interview about that, they probably wouldn't want him to "steal" the show with his out of this world bass playing. They just want a 5 minute guitar solo 2 times per song.
  17. Replace Metallica with
    1) Meshuggah
    2) The Dillenger Escape Plan w/ Mike Patton

I really dug metallica at the beginning, liked em a little less as time went on, but this last album they put out was just terrible IMHO. they went from a 10 in my book, to an 8, to a -2  :bawl:

Yeah man. I never really dug them in the first place. But I will admit they have a few (some) good songs, probably not more than 10.;)
