I watched the Grammy Awards, and "don't get it".

That entire show was a joke, then she kept blowing Beyoncé the whole time. It confused the hell out of my wife and I.
Grammys is a pop music award show. No need to take it seriously or believe it represents all music has to offer.
Chasarms nailed it. Musicians really do not like the same music as normal people. All you have to do is look at your Facebook feed; the normals, your Aunt, your Mom, regular people like popular artists singing songs they know with flashing lights, costumes and dancing. Musicians don't get that. They look down on it. That is one of the reasons so many musicians cannot make any money playing music: they resent the people doing the paying. They want to sell something that nobody wants to buy.
I know I'm getting old and out of touch, but what does this mean?
That part was weird. Even if she (I'm assuming you're referring to Adele) was completely sincere, it still sounded a little...obsessive, especially coming from someone so accomplished in her own right, and not just an anonymous fan.

If you watched 60 minutes last night, they intetviewed Adele and Beyonce. Adele just sings, she doesnt dance around, and she doesnt want to. Shes just pouring out her feeling and just using her voice.
I for one am glad to see someone who doesnt need all the overdone synchronized dancing around and stupid outfits, and can do it without explicit lyrics. Shes a musician period. She said "thats not who I am. Id be faking it. I go out there and be myself. I'm a vocalist and songwriter"

EXACTLY! I like a few of her songs. I use them sometimes during my Spin class, but MY GOD, has she EVER been in a good relationship? LOL!
By the way, I haven't watched the grammy's since rap music, therefore I have nothing to complain about.

You think the Grammies are bad? Last night my girlfriend and I sat through two hours of Quebec's version of The Voice to catch a glimpse of a friend who was competing on the show. Utter garbage from beginning to end. Painful and embarrassing yet, apparently, people can't get enough of this kind of show. I have no doubt that most people's listening habits have more to do with sociological phenomena than with ears.
The Grammys are the least relevant of all the awards shows, which are all irrelevant, IMHO. Award shows are all designed by some group to attract attention to themselves while patting themselves on their backs. The winners are usually someone whose career needs a boost at the moment or is retiring, or recently died. The Simpsons said it best -
People will watch that stuff on TV but not bother to go out to a club to see someone actually trying to do something real and live.
1.) Award shows are always circular manipulations of each others genitals. They don't mean anything as they don't use sales numbers, and there is no objective standard given. That goes for movies, TV, music, all of it. It just a matter of who remembers whose name.
2.) Despite their self congratulatory declarations of diversity, awards are generally given to the most vanilla of the vanilla. Because the web now allows us to find niche things that will never see the light of day, we are exposed to a broader world. The people from begone ages that we lionize now would have been considered hacks today if they had to compete with such a giant market.
3.) Musical performances at award shows are always terrible. The sounds is often off, the performers aren't properly warmed up, their are all sorts of distractions, etc. I've often heard that performances seen on the TV never match what was seen live. Don't expect much.
4.) As to Adele specifically, using the term "over produced" with any of these artists is, to use your word, pompous. Its pop. ALL of it is digitally produced and written almost exclusively with sales numbers in mind. Three middle aged Swedish dudes write a quarter of the music everyone hears on pop radio these days. Trying to single her out is like singling out a needle in a pile of needles.
Do you really expect anything different?
Adele's barely 26 and y'all are criticizing her for singing about relationships.
I'm not an Adele fan per se but I have to give her credit where I feel it's due. She seems to be someone with integrity - and someone whose primary interest is the music rather than the spectacle.
