I will be getting Peavey T40 soon

I don't know if it will cure all your p-bass gas, but you're in for a treat. Tell us more. Color, year, how much, etc, etc. Pics?!

As always, check my sig for more info about the t-40 than you ever wanted to know.

I'm a huge fan of the T-40, and you can kind of cop a P tone, but it's by no means dead-on. The overall feel of the instrument is a bit different too... the neck is as wide as a P but thinner front to back, the body doesn't have much contouring, and overall it's a bit heavier than most Fenders. It'll probably feel closest to a Rickenbacker or a Gibson Grabber than anything else.

To cop a P-like tone you'd usually solo the neck pup and run it in humbucker mode (by turning the tone down to around 7 or lower). I generally prefer the crispness of these pups in single coil mode, so you might even try the neck pup solo'd with the tone wide open...

thanks! from all the info i can gather, it sure sounds like a win win situation for me.

I've never seen one with a white pickguard like that.
I had a natural ash/maple T-40 years ago, and with the stock black pickguard, I thought it looked totally badass. Like it should be riding a Harley or something.

They are heavy, solid, Peavey classics. You could drop it off your roof and it would play just fine. For a while, I played it through a Peavey 210 watt Combo with a 15" Black Widow. Talk about a rugged rig! It gave me back problems, but it was cool, and rock solid.

Good choice? I couldn't pass it up. Will it cure my P-Bass gas? What say's you? I never owned a P-Bass but the gas has been hitting me hard for a few months. Your input is appreciated.

The good ole T40. What a beast. That was the first bass I ever owned. It's a Peavey staple in my opinion. I know many people that have owned one or played one before. It wieghs a ton that was about my only dislike.

Wow! I've seen that one on TB a couple of times. I didn't FL Knifemaker would ever part with it. Based on the toaster pickups, it's a pre- '83 model. If the condition is even half as good as the pictures suggest, you got a fantastic deal. That thing is going to be a tone monster!

cool, for a change, my impulse buy didn't totally screw me over!

:D

i can't wait to compare it to my 76 Rickenbacker copy!

:bassist:

are the foundations the ones that are like p-basses?

i haven't dug too deep into the peavey backstory but i probably should. it'll give me many, many more reasons to buy awesome quality MIA basses on the cheap. :ninja:

ahhh, cool cool. i'll have to look into those. i've been contemplating getting rid of my fender for something a bit "better" sounding, to my ears.

i looked at your profile and i see no t-40 anywhere, n00b. :scowl:

:p

Congrats! You got knifemakers baby. I had a shot at it and a few months back almost pulled the trigger on it. I even went and found a WHITE truss rod cover to put on it to match the white PG a bit better than the black. But alas, I decided to pass on it. If I get another T40 I have my heart set on a black/rosewood one and will settle for nothing less. In the meantime I totally love my Burst/maple monster that I have now so my reasons for not getting it had nothing to do with how great that T40 is. Congrats again! I know you got a great one (psst...if you want a white truss rod cover to go with the white PG let me know LOL Its not pearl like the PG but it is white..)

...And if my wife has her way i won't have one for a while either :(

wives are made of lame sometimes, aren't they? :rollno:

you could always try the "but honey, it'd be cheaper to get it now because the prices on them keep steadily rising. have you seen the cost of a vintage FENDER lately?" route.

this is why you never explain the differences in brands to a s/o. ;)

eventually, you will want to marry your t-40 and have little mutant sg looking baby bass children running about.

Of course your back will be too sore to play with the mutant babies!:crying::D

Seriously. These things are heavy.

Mine is in the 12-13lb range and it kills my back. And I have only had it a week.

Bottom line IMO... they sound great but they are too heavy to gig. I am in great shape and am a fairly young guy.. but my Sadowskys and even my "heavy" Stingrays are ALL under 9.5 lbs. BIG difference in weight on a 4 hour gig!:bawl::D
