I have had a laugh at this thread, so much culinary content and yes, `toad in the hole` is nice, as is Marmite and Bovril-I love them .
To go back to the title `if I were british`, people from outside of britain have a strange perception of `britain`, it is not a nice old fashioned mix off eccentricity and quaintness, it is actually a pretty crap place in many ways, it is run by idiots and populated by a rapidly degenerating population morally, a place where you cannot walk down the street without getting chewing gum, litter, sick from the previous nights under-age binge drinkers or dog sh*t stuck to your shoes, a place with a ridiculously high average of under age mothers, under age alcoholics and drug takers, a ridiculously high average of sexually transmitted dieases including new HIV infections which have doubled in the last year, we produce practically nothing in britain and the country is just about bankrupt, all our once proud businesses have been sold off to the highest foreign bidders, the only time anyone remembers they are british is when our pathetic football team takes part (and fails miserably ) in major tournaments, and when we are knocked out in the early stages large numbers of hooligans take to the streets and smash the place up in a drunken stupor !!
yes, this is modern day britain, not quite the green fields, thatched cottage, well behaved society it once was

Many people in britain nowadays are only concerned with themselves and patriotism is dead !!
Sorry to shatter your illusions !!
