I mention maybe a month ago that choir’s music director suggested that I played my fretted instead of fretless so as not to miss notes. I stuck to my guns and got better. After hearing me use the Jaco tone and mwah on some slower songs, now she is suggesting where I should slide.

I am playing fretless more 90% of the time at church.

So your choir director tells you where to slide on your fretless bass? This just seems odd to me, unless you're just starting out with music. I guess no two musical journeys are the same. (I know, I gotta be more open minded!)

I wrote that she suggests places where I might slide. She is not that knowledgeable about bass guitars, if I weren’t sliding already, she would not know I could do it. What exactly is the problem with the choir director making suggestions? She is our leader.

Honestly, if I were musical director and I had a resurrrctrd Jaco in my musical group, I’d still suggest that he plays fretted and leave the fretless for special songs. I assume you’re playing with organ or a synth player. Things get muddy quickly with just a few cents of difference in pitch.

Just me, piano, drums, and the choir, the Pedulla makes it very easy to be in tune, if I just look at the fingerboard from time to time.

if she really knew how sweet that pedulla is, she would have insisted on its use!

I'm grateful our director is a good friend and he has no qualms with my rotation. he knows I try to fit tone for the songs that day. he won't even get grumpy if I use 2 during a service. blessed.

There is nothing quite like that tone on the slower songs or at least I love it.

Just curious... which strings do you prefer?

Grats on winning her over.
