Hello guys and gals,


I’d like to share my sad story with you. I initially thought to post it on the Lost & Stolen Gear thread, but I changed my mind for a few reasons. Firstly, I know very well who did it and secondly, I don’t think I can do much about it.


So, I was a proud owner of Takamine G-Series bass (the exact model was GB30CE-BLK). It may not be a big deal for some of you, but I loved it very much because not only was it my first bass but it was also a gift from my late father. Therefore, its sentimental value was much higher than monetary.


Now, I have a friend (well, HAD is a much better word) who was struggling with addiction for a while. He didn’t do drugs (at least I hope he didn’t), but he was hooked on online gambling. I clearly remember seeing him hitting this http://www.headlinecasinos.com/members/registration/ but I didn’t take heed of him at the time. I realize now that was a terrible mistake.


A few days ago, he came to my place begging me to lend him some money. I refused because I was sick and tired of giving him money he never paid back. He was furious, I’d never seen him like that. He just told me I would regret this and left.


Two days after the incident, I came home from my work only to find out that I had been burgled. As you may guess, the only thing missing was my bass guitar. I immediately went to my “friend’s” place, but he didn’t answer the door, nor did he answer my phone calls. Normally, I reported everything to the police, but I still haven’t got any information from them.

well, to stay within the law, yes police is your only way to go i'm guessing. If you know any family of his, i'd contact them, bring them up to speed and see if they offer any help or reimbursement ....i can get addicted to drugs and acting a fool, but not just from gambling, i'd be face punching when he's found i'm afraid, sorry, hope it works out for everyone and you get it back. Maybe check all pawnshops in your area asap!

Call or go to every pawn shop and guitar shop in the area. If your ex-friend needed money they would have needed to sell it somewhere. If it’s at a shop and you have a police report you should be able to recover your instrument.

Make sure the police have your serial number if you know it. More than 3 decades ago, the police recovered my microwave among other things because a pawn shop faxed a list of serial numbers to the police every day.

As said watch pawn shops, music stores and CL ads. I believe pawn shops and music stores are a little bit concerned regarding newly purchased instruments (they often have 30-60 holds before they resell), but CL and other private markets won't be as discerning.

"Friend" or not - prosecute if you get the chance. He needs some rock-bottom help.

Sounds to me he stole the bass more for making you regret it more then getting money out of it. Imagine that a guy is mad you won't lend him money when he never pays you back. He may not be on drugs but he's just as bad as someone on them with his attitude.
