Ibanez atk 300

My Brother had this bass but was thinning his collection. My other bass is in the shop so I grabbed it with the intention of repainting it down the road. I read a lot of great reviews on these basses and got it for a great price. Sounds great, a lot of different tones available.

I've never had the chance to try one, but yeah, they have an apparently well-earned rep as kick ass solid but versatile basses. Punches above their weight class in the bang-per-buck category.

The Brother that had this owns some really nice Fender basses. He bought this one cause back in the day he had one and parted ways with it. He told me that the ATK is all the bass I will ever need. Apparently this one has the Ash body and rosewood neck, he was saying that is a real solid combination.

I am a noob but trying to learn as much as I can

@Riff Ranger is the TB ATK guru. He can help you if you ever have issues with yours.

I’ve been promoted! :nailbiting:

I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on ATKs by any stretch, but I have had mine since they first came out and have gotten to know them a bit and to love them a lot.

We have a sporadically active club with more knowledgeable members than me who would likely take an interest in this one if you had questions or just wanted other enthusiasts to share in the excitement; I’ve never seen one in that color.

As for being the only bass you’ll ever need: it would make a poor choice for a Beatles cover band  but it certainly can produce a variety of useful sounds with that single pickup. Endorsers ranged from Greg K from The Offspring to Scott Reeder from Kyuss to Paul Grey from Slipknot, which together covered a broad swathe of hard-er rock and metal genres from the 1990s to now.

Congrats on a killer bass.
My first 5 string was an ATK black and maple.

Love yours ...and the color...
many many gigs were played with mine.
Enjoy

I am digging this bass for sure. It plays well, from what I can tell. I am just starting out.

I plan to paint it satin black and do pinstriping on it. No rush. Plan on learning how to do all the setup work with this one as well.

I have a music man copy, Slammer by Hamer that is getting completely reworked. Between the two I should have a lot of bases covered. I think, lol.

I am definitely digging it. My Brother I got it from painted it that color. I am thinking I am going to repaint satin black with pinstriping. He also did some lightening of the body I am going to smooth out a bit.

Paid $200 Canadian and works perfect. So great project

Here we are back in about 1996. We’ve got another gig a dozen days from now :woot:

Congrats, ATK’s are great basses.

I just picked up a 1994 Japanese-made ATK 100 on a whim and I'm really happy with it so far. It only has 2 coils and it's passive, but it sounds awesome and it plays really well. The fretwork and neck feel are really up there with basses in the $1000-$2000 range. My plan is to wire in my own dummy coil and change out the switch in order to copy the 3-coil pickup switching (Right now, it's only series/parallel). I'm also going to add an EMG BTC just to expand the tones even more.

And because of this, I'm on the hunt for a MIJ ATK 305.

Sweet man. This is gonna be cool when done.

My music man copy bass just had a kent armstong pickup put in and is now wired series/parallel. Sounds great but nothing like the tones I am seeing from the atk 300. Loving it and feels great in my hands

ATK 100 Update: I installed the EMG BTC and wired it for 18v. I also found a cheap, ceramic Strat pickup I was able to use as a dummy coil. I left the two-way switch and wired it so down is parallel and up is neck coil + dummy. So far, I’m really happy with the mods.

And I’m now the proud owner of a 1996 MIJ ATK 305 in natural finish. It’s right around 9 lbs., looks good, and sounds good. I may change the preamp down the road, but it’ll do for now.

I had a ATK305 and one of the dumbest things I've ever done was to sell it. I think the ATK's are the best basses Ibanez has ever made. I wish they would bring them back.

Yea, I got one a few yrs back when some store was blowin em out on a wicked sale.

I grabbed one, Black n maple. Thing sounded and played VERY nice (other than a few sharp frets- but for the $$- no contest).

It was just a little heavy for me, and my boney little girl arms. (and my 3 back surgeries).
But, yea, it was nice.

Great basses.

Carry on.
