ibanez Barrel Jack problem?

hello everyone,
i have ibanez sr505 for 2 years, it been great until recently.

i have problem when i put in my jack. if i try move abit, it would cause pop sound and sometime it wont let a signal pass through the cable.

i have try different cables with different guitar, so cable is out of question.

i brought a new Jack from my local music store(Steve music toronto) they says it should be fine, so i put it in, find out that the same problem occurs...

does this has to do with those pots i have as well?(vol, tone, bass, mid, high)

i dont wanna send it to the shop. i dont wish to pay so much x( unless it is out of bound.

thanks
Honda

Hi.

I'm assuming a barrel jack?

Those can be a total PITA sometimes, especially if the instrument in question is an active one and there's the "poor mans switch" ie. RS connects the active electronics.

What I'd do (and have done) is to convert to a panel jack. Buy Neutrik, and You probably don't have to worry no more.

You can buy a Neutrik barrel jack as well, but even if it's the best IMHO, the tiny parts and small sizes makes it prone to break sooner or later as well.

Since there's two almost identical standards, 6mm & 1/4", if the plug and the jack aren't of the same standard, there's always going to be problems.

Regards
Sam

thanks T-bird, i dont get afew things,
what is RS connects?

also, does the Pot get dirty and effect this? sometime when i roll it, it has some sound coming out as well. it happened about 2 months ago and disappear now. how should i clean the pot?

Interesting post I had my pickups on a SR 500 changed and the tech had it 2 months and in the end could not fit the jack back in with out this funky spacer he used.I was happy to get it back it plays but it is ugly.I will not be back to the shop. He is supposed to be "the" guy around here with a impressive clientele but for this job........Well not bad talk here okay? But there seems to be a issue with these jacks.I looked at it and there are 3 wires connected that are super thin gage.I wish I could upgrade but no one wants to touch it. I can do it I think but don't know what jack will work.
