I have the SRX 500 bass and love the slim neck and the light body. Are the Premiums and Prestige basses built similar? I think the Premium and SRX are built in Indonesia. What do the Premiums have that cost extra?

Better pickups for one thing. Generally, the workmanship will be better, on them including the fretwork. I played the stock SRs in GC and they are fine. I ended up buying a Prestige (MIJ) and there is no comparison. But it does cost 3 to 4 times more. I think the Premiers are made in Indonesia and have never touched one, but I suppose they are a step up.
Are they worth the extra money?
If you really love basses like I do, yes. To me, the Prestige is just a work of art - truly a thing of beauty. Try as I may, playing it every day, my bass skills will never be worthy to justify owning it.

The Pretige line is hand crafted in Japan with the best of woods, electronics, and hardware well worth the money if that's what your after. The Premium line uses some very nice choices in top woods, and come with Nordstrand pu's. Both come with active 3-band EQ's w/mid freq switch, and bypass.

What a gorgeous bass! To buy a Prestige, I'd have to sell my Lull which I bought several months ago. I've been using my SR500 at gigs because it's smaller than my Lull and I don't get as tired on 4 hour gigs. It's tough to get older because 15 pound Precisions didn't bother me when I was younger.
Well first of all, SRX and SR are two completely different bass lines. Second, there's no way to compare a SRX with a Premium or Prestige SR - they're from different universes
If you like the SRX, you will LOVE the SR - then you will find out what a slim & fast neck should really feel like Simply put: Premiums & Prestiges are killer 
What you get for the extra bucks? Pretty much everything: high quality electronics, premium woods, superior craftmanship and a tone to die for Just try to find a store that has one of those and see for yourself Good luck

SRX is discontinued (REALLY wish it wasn't!!!) but was a great set of basses IMO. SRs are still alive and kicking, excellent feeling basses IME.
I like the feel of the premiums but dislike a lot of the aesthetics. The gold hardware and some of the wood combos just come to me as sort of awkward and gaudy. The Prestige SR4000e is the perfect SR bass IMO, beautiful and tasteful looking. If we were making the VanillaThundah signature model, I'd take that one, give it a hipshot bass x-tender, EMG pickups and electronics, and make it a neckthrough.

SRX were hybrids with mostly weak borrowed features mixed together: they had (sort of) a close design to a SR but they were bulky & not ergonomic; they wanted to sounds more like a Music Man (what was the add: "a SR on steroids" or something like that? Heh) but the tone was muddy - while an ATK does a very good job at that. So in the end they were kind of redunant - IMO, of course.
SR is the flagship line of Ibanez basses so it's very unlikely to see it discontinued

Everyone has their own taste, it's definitely a bulkier body style compared to the traditional SRs, but some people prefer a more solid-feeling bass if they do pop/slap and want some weight behind the bass. Preamp on them is the weak link, once I switched mine out with the Bartolini NTMB-3, it came alive. My only gripe is that the giant pole pieces can clack against the strings if the pickups are too close, that can be a problem. If I could change anything about mine thus far, I'd put some EMG pickups in there and maybe an EMG preamp. I've recently become a serious convert for their stuff, I like it a lot

NBD for me today! I really stoked on this Ibanez SDGR SRX2EX2 Bass that my friendly, local UPS guy dropped off for me today! I'd been wanting one and got this one for a steal at $265 including a Gator hardcase! How these basses get sold for so little is beyond me. I've been playing it for about an hour now and I love it! For all the talk about what it doesn't have and what it can't do, whatever, opinions vary. It's the best bass I've ever had so far. To be fair I've played OLP, Squier, Rogue, Jackson etc basses and not the high end ones either so maybe my opinions are based on that. I think it's great and if other Ibanez basses are this good, I think I'll have to get rid of all my other basses and go exclusive! Check out my new baby!!! =)
