Ibanez Black Carbon Coated Bass Strings

They are essentially a bronze roundwound string with a very thin black nylon winding over the outside of the string.

It really looks like a coating (i.e. a very thin, electrochemically applied film) rather than a nylon layer literally wound to the string.

They feel similar to my recollection of Elixir Strings.

Yes, I guess you would probably classify it as a coating. It feels ever so slightly “plasticky”, for lack of a better term. Certainly not obnoxious; just a little different at first. Overall the feel is very nice.
