Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

I am familiar with the SRC6. That's why I specifically mentioned a Bass VI-style instrument. I've edited my post to make that more clear.

I'm looking for something with 4 or 5 stings and a wider spacing. Also, the SRC6 and Bass VI put the bridge in a more guitar-like location, so the reach to the lower frets isn't that different from a long-scale bass. I want something with the bridge near the end of the body to reduce the reach. The BTBs, even the BTB33, all have the bridge very close to the end of the body.

Even though the SRC6 bridge isn't near the edge of the body, still the reach to the first fret is somewhat significantly reduced. Cause Ibanez have put the strap pin on the top horn of SRC6 parallel to its 12th fret, which means the distance from the middle of the bass which hangs somewhere in your left chest to the nut is only around 15" (substract a few if counting the fretting position of the 1st fret).

In comparison, since all BTBs have top strap pin which also parallel to the 12th fret, your BTB33s are likely to have the same measurement around 16.5" where current regular 35" BTB will have measurement around 17.5", which means the reduction on the SRC6 from BTB33 is larger than on BTB33 from regular BTB.

While I agree that having the upper strap button at the 12th fret helps with reach (and balance), and your calculations of the distances from nut to 12th fret, I don't think that tells the whole story. Consider a bass with a given scale length (say 34 inches) and with the bridge right at the end of the body. Think about how the bass will hang and where the nut will be. Now add more body between bridge and the lower strap button until you have, say, 6 inches of additional space there. The bass will now hang with the lower strap button approximately 3 inches further to the players right (for right handed players), and the upper strap button will be a about 3 inches further to the left. The nut will also be 3 inches further away. So the bridge-to-strap-button distance is indeed a factor in reach.

Hey BTB Club! Got a Terra Firma 6'r and love the thing to death.

I live way down south in Key West and notice that my hardware is pitting and getting funky pretty quickly. I was really thinking about swapping all hardware to black, honestly. Any idea on how to come across black Mono Rail 2 bridge pieces?

I'm sure I can source new knobs and tuners just fine.

Just bought my first last night, a BTB456. The longer scale length is going to be really nice for my downtuning obsession, and it'll be a good extended range sibling for my SR405.

Gonna need to put some padding on my strap, though. The 405 already hurts my shoulder a bit, so the 456 will probably be rough when standing.

Thank you for the response! Love the bass to death but I wanna change the look a bit.

@DarkArchitect

They are amazing basses. Mine is one of the best playing basses I've ever owned.

I am almost sure of that, and I want the 6-string version of your bass. I live in Moscow, Russia and apparently it is not readily available here. There are chances that I will go to vacation in Asia towards the end of the year, so that's why checking its availability to determine my route ;)

Hi all!
Anyone can recommend a decent musical store in Asia (let's say Indonesia) where I can buy a Ibanez BTB bass? Specifically interested in Ibanez BTB1606-DTF, so far internet search did not provide any results :) Thanks!

Despite most of current Ibanez and maybe majority of current world musical instruments are made in here, in Indonesia, it's not that easy to get them locally. Cause they belong to industrial scheme where manufacturers need to export their products to the principal countries first (where ever they are, but I'm guessing most of them have representatives in Singapore) before local distributors re-import those products back to Indonesia.

Unless (this is my second guess), the kind of brand who has established local company, such as Yamaha and Cort, which operates as musical instrument manufacturing company by itself (which in fact also becomes contract manufacturer for many other brands), which might have sales department or could be some kind of subsidiary that handles local sales, using quota of not exporting all of their goods abroad (which is allowed by the industrial scheme), thus local distributor might get their products directly. I'm guessing this cause Cort and Yamaha products are vastly and widely available in Indonesia up to their current models.

I own 2 BTB (and few other Ibanez) basses, which I got mostly by ordering them first through one of Ibanez local dealers. I had to wait about 6 to 9 months before finally I can have them. The reason for 'indenting' is because Ibanez local distributor imports mostly products which they think will be easy to sell (in bass guitar scenario, these would be the GIO, Talman and few low SR series). They would import mid to high end products only based on estimation or specific order, thus only available in limited quantities (oftentimes only 1).

To answer your question... You'd probably have better chances of getting the BTB from Singapore, although... AFAIK, being I have a younger brother who lives there, musical instrument stores over there also have these kind of mid to high end products in stock only in limited number. But at least they import most of the line-up in the current catalog. You might check them first through googling Singapore local musical instrument stores' websites. But no guarantee it will still be available when you get there unless you've made some kind of commitment to the store.

And... being I had lived in Tokyo for a couple of year few years back, I'm guessing (my last guess :D) you would probably have the best chances of getting a BTB bass if you go to Japan. Not necessarily the Prestige series which are being made there, this includes those which are made in Indonesia. I was there as a grad student who lived based on stipend... so I could only drool of buying any musical instrument...

Additional info: price comparison

I present you three musical instrument websites which sell Ibanez SRSC805-NTF from three countries mentioned above (I have none or what so ever relation to these shops, these are strictly for price comparison):

Indonesia: Link Removed
Singapore: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Japan: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

My conclusion: buying a musical instrument, which is a specifically made in Indonesia, despite it needed to be exported first and we had to import them back, is still cheaper in Indonesia than elsewhere (namely in Singapore or Japan). The price difference is 15% to 33%.

And my BTB456 has arrived. Sounds, looks, and feels better than I expected. The B string is much more defined, as well, even though it's on a 1" longer scale. The SR405 seems to be right on the border between slightly muddy and clear, so that extra inch seems to be just enough to push it over the edge.

Also the whole thing just sounds wonderful through the B7k. It's much smoother sounding than the SR405, which in my experience tends to sound better with a lot of mids than a lot of lows, so it'll be nice to have a bass that'll work well for pure rumbling low end, as well.

Hi guys, I need an advice. I own older BTB300BG and I´m looking for bridge replacement (also mono rail) in GOLD. I dont care about manufacturer (but quality of course!), but I need the bridge to fit in my BTB.
Type is Mono-rail II. Please, can you help me, is there any replacement in gold? Thanks a lot.

Different types of Mono-Rail bridges come with different sizes and cut-outs, especially that Ibanez installed the Mono-Rail bridges counter-sunk. So yes, you need to buy the exact Mono-Rail II if you want to change color.

Given the fact that in recent years most Ibanez are being made here in Indonesia, we tend to see lots of parts appear in local on-line marketplace. I have seen those Mono-Rail II bridges popped up in chrome, never in satin silver. Rather strange actually, cause I've never seen Ibanez puts in chrome Mono-Rail II. They were being sold quite cheap, IDR 30,000 a peace (USD 2.30 with current google currency exchange rate). But that was about 2 years ago.

Recent ones appear in gold and cosmo black, but not Mono-Rail II anymore, they are the Mono-Rail IV and Mono-rail V. This is why I'm able to change my Bass Workshop BTB7-NTF bridges from stock cosmo black to gold.

I'm getting a generation I btb675 tomorrow!:hyper::hyper::bassist::bassist:
I hope I can get adjusted to the 35" scale. My current band is tuning drop c so hopefully this will help with some of that floppy tuning. I'm currently using a 34" scale warwick 5 string tuned up and it's nice and tight but I don't wanna strain the neck that much.. so maybe I'll have this 35" tuned differently so my normal "b" string isn't a "c" relieving some tension on the neck.
I'm usually using bolt on basses also so this neck-through beast will be fun to tame!!
I've been reading and I hope I don't have a dreaded dead A string from the pickups being for six strings... any way to tell visually if I should find some different mk2 pickups??
Thanks for help Ibanezers!
