Ibanez IBZ10BV2 - aux in issues?

Mrs Bassman bought me one of these 10w amps for me to use to practice in the bedroom
it works a treat - very lightweight and has a pretty good sound for a 10w amp
I've started to do some more bass covers for my YouTube channel.
I've been doing this mainly by playing through my amp and playing the song I'm covering through the logitech computer speakers - using Quicktime on the MacBook to do the movie / audio recording and handbrake to turn the recording into an MP4, but the sound quality on the last 2 I did wasn't that great

Yesterday I tried plugging my MacBook into the 'aux in' on my amp, but when I pressed play on the song on YouTube on the Macbook, it was very loud through the amp and when I turned the volume off on the amp it didn't do anything.... I had to stop the YouTube video

do I need to turn down the sound / volume on my Macbook to regulate the aux volume going through the amp?

someone on Facebook suggested I use Garageband on the Macbook and that I need to use an 'interface'... to do better quality recordings but I don't really know anything about them or how they work... I've only been playing bass for 35 years LOL!

any advice would be appreciated

Yes, turn it down on your Mac. This is typical.

Yes. Various applications you're using (Garage Band, the video panel on the YouTube page in your web browser) have volume controls, but the system volume is the master control.

It sounds like in your system's current configuration, your Mac's only analog signal out is the headphone jack. That jack is controlled by the system volume.

(The question of how audio can be routed and controlled within a computer operating system gets complicated pretty easily, but for what you're doing that doesn't matter.)
