I was playing my Portamento tonight, and as versatile as it is, I found a way to get even more tones out of it.
A few months ago, I read at the Telecaster forum, TDPRI, about players who said they got different tones out of their guitars by rolling the volume on the instrument back.
I tried it, and it works!
By rolling the volume on an instrument back without touching the amp volume, you do get slight, yet noticeable diffetences in your guitar or bass' tone.
Tonight. I tried it with the Portamento, and was pleasantly surprised.
Up until now, my favorite tones were:
1.) Piezo alone
2.) Neck pickup alone
3.) Neck and bridge both on full.
Tonight, I started experimenting with:
Neck on full, bridge rolled back to about 7.
Bridge on full, neck rolled back to about 7.
Then, neck and bridge both at varying levels, but less than full.
All the settings produced slightly different tones, but tones that you could hear were different.
I will give a more detailed report as I experiment, and write them down.
In a word, I'm happy.

Seems like the possibilities are endless. I just stretched all my strings because they won't hold tune. Hopefully that works. They are brand new XL flats OEM. Never had to do that with LaBellas. I'm also finding the "side of the neck" markers mess me up a tad. I got use to my Rogue that only had dot markers. The build on this bass is a work of art. I was really surprised at how narrow the neck is, reminds me of my Hofner. All and all, amazing bass.
Anyone using LaBella 750n lights (Tapewounds) If so is my new SrF considered a medium scale when ordering strings.

Nope. Although my SRF705 is now carrying D'Addario Tape Wound ETB92-5 (50-65-85-105-135) which has the same gauge as La Bella 750N-B.
I do have La Bella 750T-B White Nylon Tape Wound and 750C-B Copper White Nylon Tape Wound, but I haven't felt the need to put them on. I like my SRF with the ETB92-5. These are just the right strings for this bass. I think I would need another bass if I were to use them.

You'll really love them although it'll take a good month for them to break in.
I haven't tried those. I did used to like Ken Smith Compressors on my Squire 5 string fretted.

Yeah. It's a makeshift thumbrest. I pulled the bridge pup, too so I could dig in.
if only you had a B string, you could use that for a thumbrest. Oh well, that strap lock bolted onto the bass is more permanent than a B string and will save you money when you buy sets of strings. (sarcasm)
Seriously dude? I don't get that at all. Your bass, do what you wish, but why buy a 5 string and throw one away?
