Hey, glad you're enjoying the new bass! Your fingerboard looks similar to mine - I think the Panga Panga is quite attractive with that sort of grain. Mine also came sealed in the box with pale abrasions/marks on the board which clearly came from the strings - the texture of the flat winding was even visible! I always assumed that this happened at some point just before packing, or during shipping. I guess they need to put some kind of protective wrapping on the fingerboard?
Sad to hear it, but it sure sounds like you've got some gremlins in there. With both magnetic pickups opened up on mine, it gets a little aggressive - reminiscent of my Jazz bass. No volume drop, that's for sure. Also my Piezo is really loud, even with the magnetics raised up pretty close to the strings and the Piezo trim pots (on the back of the body, behind the bridge) turned all the way down. At one point while adjusting the intonation, I moved the B String saddle so far toward the tail end of its channel that I lost Piezo sound entirely on that string. Once I backed it off slightly, the sound came right back, so you might try moving a saddle around to see if you can get any sound out of the piezo that way. Could also try adjusting those trim pots, if you haven't.
Agree strongly with this! There is something really special about this neck profile for me - I find the added depth compared to most Ibanez necks to be extremely comfortable. I also wish all my bases had this satin painted finish - so smooth! It feels like I'll probably wear through it in time, but I think that'll look cool and impart some mojo to the bass, when/if it eventually happens.

Yeah, that Panga Panga fretboard is much prettier than my Rosewood one. Almost jealous. That is pretty. Does remind me of Wenge.
My SRF 706 had a solder come loose and it made the neck pickup not work. Some of these have poor solders. The guy at the local shop didn't even charge me because it was such an easy fix. Get someone to look at it. Probably a bad solder.
FE and UPS have not been getting signatures since Covid started even though it may have been shipped with signature required. Both FE and UPS drivers have explained that they have strict orders not to let anyone touch their equipment.Well, she arrived yesterday, just as I was dozing off (I work 3rd shift). I have always had bad luck with FedEx compared to UPS, and the store sent this one FedEx, with a signature required. I tried my best to stay awake on the sofa (my normal sleep schedule is 1:30pm-9:30pm), but ended up dozing off. Around 230pm I am awakened by a loud truck, so I throw on shoes and open the door to see the truck driving away, my bass box stood up (vertically!) in the middle of my driveway. Well great, at least I didn't have to sign for my 1000 dollar purchase....
So I brought it inside, unboxed it and put it in a case, under the sofa.
Got home this morning, roaring and ready to try her out, went to wash my hands ... and the water is frozen.
I don't care (too much); I'm playing her a little bit anyway. I will be back later in the day today to post pics and get my number!
A couple of quick thoughts:
So far, that is a very accurate description. Buttery! I'm liking it very much so far! I honestly thought the tight(er) 16.5 spacing at the bridge would bother me more; it really doesn't (yet)!
After reading this whole thread, I will probably keep the stock chromes on her, at least for the time being. I'm going to put strap locks on this, and noodle around some more. It's not as intimidating (playing fretless) as I first thought it would be; but then again I have never played in front of anyone. My next post in this thread will have pics. The figuring on the Panga Panga is actually kind of nice, but for being a brand new bass still sealed in the box, I find it odd how marked up the fingerboard is.
Yeah, sometimes my mouth is faster than my brain, and I say/and or ask silly things without thinking them through. Unfortunately, my fingers are faster than both!
Hoookaay...I need help. Just received my Portamento 6'er and its got issues. I am getting nothing out of the neck and bridge pickups. Piezo is working and sounding good. I replaced the stock battery with brand new. Any thoughts before I take it for repair? Thanks
You need to get it looked at. My 706 was the first one that Sweetwater sold. I was one of their first two very early pre-orders. Not sure where my model number is in the order, but one of the earliest ones into the US. One day during practice, my volume kept getting louder and then quieter, then my magnetic pickups just completely went away. I contacted Sweetwater and since I didn't have an authorized service center close, they told me to take it to a local guy and have him give a quote to fix it. Sweetwater was just going to pay for the repair. The local shop said that there were two wires that had come loose from a pot. He soldered them back on and didn't even charge me for it. Has been working fine now for 2 years after that.
I think as good as these are, I have heard a lot of fiddly problems with the wiring. Too many problems.
Some of these have poor solders. You really need to take it to someone who understands wiring schematics and specifically the Ibanez Portamento wiring. Take it to a Luthier or a Guitar store that is an Ibanez authorized shop. They will have the skill to fix it.

Thank you very much Sir! Kinda figured it was something screwing going on with wiring. It is brand new, but no idea how long it's been on the shelf. Once I get this problem worked out, I think is gonna be a fine fretless! Feels good!
It is probably a simple solder problem. Shouldn't be difficult to get fixed.
I love mine. I had to fiddle with the truss rod and bridge every other month until it settled in which took a few months. After that, I have only done either very minor 1/4 truss rod adjustment winter/summer, or a complete setup when I have changed out the strings. Started with the factory, then went to LaBella Gold/Whites. I really liked the Labella except the "C" string was weak. A couple months ago I bit the bullet and put TIJF's on it and found the match for this bass. Between this bass and those strings, it is amazing. I had a friend tell me that it felt better than some $3000 basses that he has played.

TI Jazz Flats. They're great. My biggest problem with them is that I want to try tapewounds but don't want to take them off.
I was in similar situation. Swapping out the stock D'Addario Chromes for D'Addario Nylon Tapewound on the SRF705 has resulted in great satisfaction for me. The problem came arise after reading about La Bella White Tapewounds, which very much caught my attention. So, I bought the White Nylon and the Copper White Nylon sets, but I don't want to take the D'Addario Nylon off and neither want to put these on other basses.
I can finally solve the problem years later after getting another Ibanez fretless bass, the Aerium SRH505F, on which I could put the Copper White Nylon.
