Ibanez Soundgear SR405

Someone is offering to sell me this 5-stringer in Light Amber (or possibly Ultra Amber, I'm not sure what the finish is called). I believe it is a 2005 based on the first digits of the serial #. It is in excellent condition, still set up well, and the only "blemish" is a knot/swirl in the woodgrain on the front of the bass. There is also an issue with farty electronics, but I believe that to be a dying battery (its active) and will report back on that tonight.

They want $250 cash, or a trade of an illicit substance which I could obtain for around $200. It also comes with a decent/OK $40 padded gig bag. It was around $500 new.

Is this a reasonable deal? Would YOU buy it? I played one of the higher end soundgears (with bartolinis) and really liked it, so I tried this thing out and liked it as well.

Thanks, way

Give him the $250. I just sold one in the summer for that price, trying to cull my herd (I still have five). It is more than likely the battery. You can also clean the pots with some spray from Radio Shack that's used for that purpose. I misplaced the can so I can't tell you the name of the product. This is what mine looked like, it was my main go-to bass:

mine is similar to that, but for some reason the amber ones have 4 knob positions, with a stacked knob. odd.

I noticed that it is a one-piece maple neck, not the newer 5-piece rock maple and rosewood necks. Also, made in Indonesia. If this is relevant.

update: threw a new battery in and that solved the fartiness, somewhat. it seems like there is some loose wiring, as there is an occasional sound cut, which can be temporarily remedied by tapping on the stacked pot knob. any ideas where to start?

oh, and the pots are scratchy, but thats easily fixable
