Ibanez Soundgears vs. Schecter Stiletto's ?!

Hey everyone im looking for a new bass and im torn between the Stiletto extreme 4 and the sr300. they both have good reviews and ive played the ibanez's before i know there nice but has anyone played or owned a schecter stiletto of some sort? how would you compare them to soundgears? :rollno:

thanks in advance!

I personally don't like Ibanez SR (much too thin for me) necks so I prefer the Schecters but I prefer the Ibanez BTB necks over either one.

I have an Ibanez SR300DX and small hands. I love it. Don't play it much nowadays because I have a Stingray and a Warwick too, but the neck on it is great for me. Tone is good, not comparable to my other basses though. Replaced the pickups with EMGs when it turned 10 and it's still going strong.

I concidered the schecters before getting my Ibanez sr300. The Ibanez won out for neck playability and sound. The schecters sound good, but I get a better high end sound for me from the Ibanez SR300. A very foccussed sound that works great with the effects I use (overdrive, plus ring mod, as main ones).

um. pretty much every schecter bass i have played (all stilettos) have had extremely thin necks. IMO just as thin as the ibanez necks

idk. either way i'd pick the schecter over the ibby. that's just me though. the only on i'd have second thoughts about is an ATK

My vote has to go to the Soundgear basses. I have played them and owned them for 17 years and have never had a single problem with any of the ones that I have owned. A friend has a Schecter and I don't really care for it. That is just my opinion though. Play both and choose the one that you like best.

You should honestly go to a GC yourself and play them to decide. GC's by me (like 3 of them) all have Schecter and Ibanez. Then once you've picked the one you prefer (b/c while I think they are of fairly equal quality, as it's been said above - they have some specific differences. It's something you will have to gauge for yourself. Once you pick? But used - tons of both on Ebay or here in the Classifieds for very reasonable prices!

I just went through this same thing. I thought I wanted a SR 300. Going to all the local shops and playing various manufacturers and models, I fell in love with the Schecter sound, it just spoke to me. I ended up with an Omen extreme 5 (great price and too good to pass up).

I didn't notice a real difference in necks (though I am a novice) but I have big hands. For me, the action was better on the Schecter, but the sound won me over. The Ibanez's (for me) just didn't touch me and I really didn't like their sound very much.

+1 Go and play both to see which you prefer. Then source out a used one. Going used, you'll be able to step up to something like the SR500 which is considerably better than the SR300. I own an SR and really enjoy it, but I have played and enjoyed the Shecter basses as well. Whatever fits you best and gives you the sound you want will be the best choice.

IMO, Schecters are overpriced compared to similar Ibanez models. comparable Schecters are usually like 80 to 100 more than their Ibanez counterparts, and don't include any substantial gains, to me. I prefer the Ibanez's tone to the Schecter too. The difference in necks I could take or leave as far as thickness, though I do like the Ibanez neck's feel. The Schecter necks just feel kind of cheesy. I don't know, can't really describe it.

I have a Schecter Custom 4 and am not too happy with it. I don't know what it is exactly, but the neck feels longer than my other basses even though they are all a 34" scale. I don't know if it is the body size or what, but I don't like the way it feels.
