Ibanez SR500

Ibanez's don't get much love on TB, but I have an SR540, and it's an awesome bass.

I have other premium basses that I own, and the Ibanez, from my point of view, has the fastest and most comfortable neck to play. It has a 1.5" nut, and it doesn't get too much wider than that at the base of the neck.

If i were buying this bass, I probably wouldn't pull the trigger because of the gash, but I totally understand, and respect anyone's commitment to a holding a budget, and at that price it's a great deal. Can you negotiate the price further down because of the gash, and other imperfections?

I can't tell exactly from the photos, but I think the finish is like a stain, and there's not much of a poly coating to the finish. It's almost like an unprotected wood finish. I've seen other Ibanez's like this, and it's not my cup of tea, but you could use some wood filler and sand it smooth. Then you stain it dark brown. No one would know the difference from 5 feet and beyond.

I don't know much about the TR50, so I did some research, and it has a 1 5/8" neck, and one control knob. This might have been Ibanez's version of a P-bass with a slightly narrower neck. You should notice the difference in feel between the TR50, and the SR500, and hopefully, you prefer it.

As everyone has suggested, go for it.

I don't think there is really any wood missing from that spot. It's just worn from a thumbnail rubbing on it. A little dark furniture polish will help hid it, but nothing to really worry about. Every used Ibanez with that finish has a spot worn there. That's a great price, get!

In regard to the finish blemish, would you turn down a deal on an old Fender because it was worn and scarred up? Those are battle scars that that bass earned doing it's job. I have an older SR505 with a worse scar than that from the original owner slapping and popping. What a great bass.
If you are worried about blemishes, stay home and polish your flawless instrument. Meanwhile I'll be out gigging with mine and enjoying it.

I'm going for it :)

Also, my uncle refinishes wood so I can probably get him to fix the blemish for me for little cost.

And on the TR50, it's just what you described. One P-style pickup, one tone knob. It's getting very boring lol.

I ended up losing the auction on the one I posted pics of before, but I ended up winning the auction for this:

It was $450 after shipping! What a steal for a great bass, a case, some strings, and a battery right?!?! :bassist:

Edit: It's an SR500SM. Just an SR500 with a different finish :)

Haha and I just read that it's worth $650 new, while the normal SR500 is worth $600

Nice!! That's a sick looking bass brother! You'll stand out onstage since before you show off the massive bass-tastic skills you're packing lol
