Ibanez Sr540 Zebra wood?

Hi BPBob, I was looking at the same one. It seems to be the exact neck and pick up configuration as the sr500 series. With the different body wood of course. I am going to deal on one today, but I too can not find any info. It must be one of those guitar center only editions.

I ended up at Daddy's Junky Music in Warwick RI at bought the SR 600 and the new Hartke 210c combo. Did you make any deals for the zebra wood bass??

I just bought the SR540 Zebra Wood from Guitar Center. I couldn't believe it, they gave me 10% off.

Not only that, they're shipping a brand new one out, so I can return the floor model. I'm pretty picky about the condition of my basses, and I found one little scuff mark at the bottom. If I can, I'll buy used, but I couldn't find this bass online anywhere, so if its going to be new, it better be in perfect condition.

All I can say is, this bass practically fell into my lap, and it just seemed to fit me perfect. It's very light and compact. I used to play guitar, and the SR has a very similar feel to a guitar neck. I would think that some bass players might find the strings a bit cramped at the head, but I'm used to it.

I haven't played out with the bass yet, so I can't comment on the sound in a band situation, but from my initial tinkering with the tone knobs, I'm very impressed. I own a Ray34, and I use that as a standard for comparing sound with other basses. I don't think I'll have the controlled sound as I have with the Ray. If this is like any other Ibanez, I'm sure the pickups and pre amp are very hot, and that means the quality of tone maybe difficult to control.

It's definitely different than my Ray 34, and that's another reason why I'm trying it out. I think this is a keeper, but I have returned other basses because actual performance did not match my expectations.

Here's a pic from GC's website. Next time I'm in I'll take some other pics.
