Ibanez SR5BBLTD: Poor Man's Fodera

I just played it today. Beautiful fit and finish. It has an ash body with a Buckeye Burl top and peg head with a Wenge and Purpleheart neck. Slim Soundgear neck, but I found it quite comfortable to play. The preamp and Nordstrand Big Singles sounded great. This is a really decent poor man's Fodera.

It is worth the $2,499.

Still looks good to me DR Cheese. My SR1205 is a fantastic sounding bass because of the Nordstrand pickups so I can only imagine that this bass also sounds great and plays like butter. I do like the burl on this bass and I don't normally like burl.

Wenge neck? I'd take that Soundgear over a Fodera.

Wenge and Bubinga neck right?

I think if Ibanez were really going for the Fodera vibe they would have used a set of series wound Nordstrand Dual Coils. Still, a good looking bass and I'm sure it plays really well too.

Kind of cool for Carey and crew that some relatively large bass builders are using Nordstrand pickups on their high end models. Big Singles in the Ibby and Fat Stacks in the limited edition Warwick Fortress.

If Ibanez had used Nordstrand dual coils, Fodera might have filed suit! At $2499, I think I would want wider string spacing, but this is a genuinely boutique quality bass. The construction, sound, and playability are first rate.

That's kind of what I was thinking when I first saw it. It should have been a BTB.

Check out the BTB line. 19mm is the spacing for 5'ers. 17 for 6's ;)

Until the next tax refund comes, I'm too poor for the poor man's Fodera. :roflmao: Good thing I'm not a big fan of the burled buckeye tops (they usually look like cat puke imho) or I'd be having GAS pains!
I can appreciate the look, but there are other SR's that are just as nice, for less money.

Wenge and PURPLEHEART neck? Not bubinga? Matching wood pickup covers? Ok now that is interesting...

I don't see the purple heart neck. It looks just like all the other premium and prestige necks using wenge and babinga? Nice bass but I except for the wood pickups covers I would rather have the prestige 5005 or even the Sr 1805 as far as finish. And save a lot of money.
