Ibanez SR700 question

Hi, Im new the forums having discovered and found them very useful during my latest search for a bass guitar. I recently got an SR700, and had a very hard time deciding over a Fender Jazz.

In the end I found the SR to be more fun to play and approachable (for my tastes), which will translate into more playing and more interest (I belive) The only problem I have is with regard to the tone. I personally find the active eq system to be a bit tinny and metallic sounding, "brite" some may call it. Its not a deal breaker, but im seeking to warm it up a bit.

Could anyof you gurus advise on taking the electronics to the nexrt level- Pups and or preamp upgrades that would substitute well in this bass and prvide a warmer more hollow tone? Also, I figure I would try out Flats on this, has anyone experiece with this chage?

Thanks so much in advance!

Brett

Hi
Been looking at ibanez myself- if you have the budget to upgrade have you checked out the SR1200? Upgraded neck, Norstrand pick ups and upgraded EQ?
Might be worth a look!
Good luck - be interested to see others responses and what you decide!

Hi, MartinG1957

thnaks for you reply. In a nutshell I find many people enjoy these mid and higher Ibanez for their feel, play and weight, but perhaps, like me, wish to have a warmer, more classic tone. This is my dilemma, and the only way out I can see is to customize.

Thats a good suggestion on the SR1200, I will look into that as well.

I always found the treble and mid EQ setting on my SR500 to be a little bright...when I would try to dial in some bite, it would be more than clanky, it was more like nasally. New strings would be the cheapest, another option is closely evaluating your amp's EQ, something that most people take as a simple concept can be far more complicated and influential than you'd expect.

thanks winston that is excellent advice. I was thinking of trying D'addario chromes. Ive never used these before, Since I dont want to take too much of the highs out of the tone, I though this a good choice. I wonder if anyone could comment on this point.

I use Chromes on 2 of my SRs and they definitely take a lot of the zingy, tinny sound away without making the bass dull sounding. No hardware will make a bigger difference in the sound of your bass for $20. :D
