Ibanez SRT necks and opinions

Anyone have an Ibanez SRT?

For me, the SRT's neck is a bit thicker or rounder if you will. I had an Ibanez SR605 previous and I thought the SR had a flater and faster neck than the SRT 5 string. That was my only real "somewhat" dislike with the SRT. That and it was noticeably heavier to me. Going from Light Ash to Mahogany. Everything else about the bass I loved. I mainly went to the SRT for the EMG DC40 pickups. Still a great bass none the less. Wish I'd kept it in some sense. I much prefer the EMGs over the Bartolinis as far as versatility for my style.

I believe the SRT line was designed to please the folks that complained about the "pencil neck" of the SRs; it's still thin enough not to throw the ppl that are acustomed to the Ibby neck dimensions off, but in the same time it has more substance and it feels a bit different. FWIW, I like it

I didn't like it. Its too thick for how narrow the neck is. Basically, it keeps the same width and strings spacing, but makes the neck like twice as thick. I dunno, It wasn't for me. The bass did have a nice weight to it. I wasn't a fan of the sound though, I didn't like the EMG's or the vari-mid pre-amp.

I have not tried the SRT805Dx but have played the SRA505. I play mostly rock and hard rock. I play a Fender J/P custom and an sr300. I am looking for a bass that is going to cut through the guitar without having to power up my head. SRA or SRT??????? ARGH..

If you need to cut through, boost your mids and cut your lows a bit.

I understand the manipulation of the EQ I was wondering about the basses. Neck-thru of the STR or bolt on of the SRA....

With neck-thru vs bolt-on there's almost no tone difference. The big difference will be the pickups.

The SRAs have passive EMG HZ pickups and the SRTs have active EMG 40 DC pickups.

One advantage the SRTs have is that vari-mid control, let's you select what frequency your mids are at.
