Ibanez SRX question

Negative, The neck specs are different between the SR and SRX's. The Sr505, Sr535, Sr605, Sr705, Sr5005E and Sr4005E, have identical specs within the series and the SRX695 and SRX475 have identical specs with each other in their respective series.

Sr505, Sr535, Sr605, Sr705, neck specs:
Scale/Length - 864mm/34"
a: Width at Nut - 45mm
b: Width Last Fret - 67mm
c: Thickness 1st Fret - 19.5mm
d: Thickness 12th Fret - 21.5mm
Radius - 305mm

SRX695 and SRX475 neck specs:
Scale/Length 864mm/34"
a: Width at Nut - 45mm
b: Width Last Fret - 73mm
c: Thickness 1st Fret - 21mm
d: Thickness 12th Fret - 23mm
Radius - 400mm

So as you can see the SRX necks are wider and have less of a radius than the Sr line does.

I sit corrected. :D

OP, have you tried different strings yet?

Then buy an SR505

By the way, you've got me wanting an SRX now, can you tell me a lil more about it?

I really like everything about it, except I can't dial in that clean tone that I like to have for much of what I play. It's well built, balanced great, really the best thing to do is look at the Ibanez web-site. If you want to be more specific send me a pm and I will try to answer any questions you have. :)

in non-technical terms, the SR series is made for sweet beautiful tones while the SRX is more for the hard players (metal). In technical terms, the DNX or DX (or if there is a new line of pickups out) are meant to graba little dirt off the strings to make it sound more gritty, the sweet bartonilis are probably THE cleanist pickups ive heard for bass.

i have two srx's an older model and the 695dx. had the same problem. make sure you put good quality fresh batteries in it and throw some copper shielding tape in the control compartment and it should clean it right up. plus you may have too much gain for your amps input either throw it into the low gain input or find yourself a nice gain reduction unit and you're set these basses are sick for the price

I'll give your suggestions a try! I think eventually I am going to buy a SR Prestige series of some sort. Just have to keep looking around for the right one. ;)

well good call my friend the srx's are a great bass once you tame them but the sr's are more subtle by far (excluding the option of cranking the midrange). but yeah on every bass i've owned / own extra shielding makes a huge difference. ive played a couple sr's and they're wonderfully well rounded regardless of the series. but i play mostly soft rock to metal ( as oppose to the classical i played much earlier) so i stuck with the srx, you can clean it up easily but you'll need shielding and some form of gain reduction for sure whether through your low gain input or an external process which i suggest regardless of what sound you're looking for cause the electronics on these basses are insanely potent.

So I'll dredge up this thread. Tons of interesting info and discussion.

I picked up a filthy used SRX695DX last week. Still haven't cleaned up everything but it's clean enough to play now. Still have to change the strings.

But wow, I'm really liking it! I had a 6er for a long time but it was 35". I much prefer a 5er at 34". Live the right hand string spacing too. I'm a J bass player and the Srx is actually relaxing to play.

Tons of tonal variety. I'm not a heavy metal player at all. But the electronics are versatile enough to get a great sound!

I have used the Bass Cut on my GK and that has helped too.

Thought I'd mention all this as the srx695dx didn't seem to last too long!
