Ibanez SRX stock pickup height...

I recently purchased 2 used SRX basses. I am curious to know where Ibanez sets the SRX pickups stock at. I know its more or less personal preference but Its bugging me to know ones alot higher than the other. If there is anyone kind enough that owns a SRX that can measure in mm I would appreciate it so much. If one of the mods can move this to setup that would be good too.

SRX pickups have a LOT of output. Do you mean that one bass has high pickups while the other one has them set low? Or that the bridge pickup is a little higher than the neck pickup?

I apologize if I'm confusing anyone. Both of the pickups on my black bass are set 2mm lower than the white bass I have. Like I said, they're both used so I'm trying to get idea of which bass has been tampered with. I checked out the Ibanez website and nothing.

...they're probably just moved to the previous owners prefered height. I doubt a huge part of a company's quality control is pickup height down to 2mm. Otherwise, the majority of Fenders (P basses especially) are really lacking some QC

That being said both your basses could BOTH be either tampered or untampered with. Such a small difference in pup height could just be a minuscule variation from the factory.

I should hope that ifg their previously owned theyve both had pup heights tampered with. Or more corecctly adjusted for personal sound pref. Generally pups closer to string gives a little more bite and output. Too close give a damped sound, esp to sustain rolloff. Further away from string can help cut treble a little but lowering also cuts output a little bit to.

The key is to adjust each pups height for both sides for best sound to you solo. Then make little adjsutment for both pups blended full on. If that sound is little darker then you want. Raise bridge pup a little or lower neck pup a little. Try quarter to max half turn. The reverse if the both pups full on is little to bright. If you find you want to adjust tonal char between E&A side compared to D&G side, just adjust that side of pups as follows. If you want D&G side a little les bright without affecting tone of E&A string. Simply raise the neck pup a tiny bit on that side and lower bridge pup a tiny bit on that side. Reverse for opposite and of course you can figure it out to adjust E&A side to taste.

If your wanting to adjust output balance of one side, For less output lower both pups on that side a little. Or if wanting higher output on that side, raise both a little.

The choice of which side of pups and which pup to raise or lower by this formula. Can be guided by to simple rules. 1. Dont raise a pup so close to string that it dampens sustain or creates that odd overpowered not musical sound. Dont lower a side or whole pup to the point that your getting somewhat muted, muddy, or weak sound.

Adjust string action first for playability pref and any desired tone char diff that lower or highr action gives relative to fret clank etc. Then adjust pups after that.

Factory stock specs are generally middle of the road, average, bland ones in most cases to me. They have nothing to do with "ideal sound".
